Question Euro delivery by August 2008

I am interested in your thoughts concerning ED timing. For various reasons, the only time I have time to travel to Germany is during the month of August. So, with that in mind, if I order the car as soon as it is released in March, do you think it will be ready for pickup by early August? Someone posted that they are doing ED in May (I assume 2008) but I have also heard that generally there is a 3 month wait after the order is placed... :iono:

If the car is a hit (which it should be), I am concerned that it may take longer than 3 months... I will spontaneously combust if I miss the 2008 window.

ED is generally available at the same time the car is released in the US. August will be no problem at all, unless you are talking about teh time when the BMW factory shuts down for a week (for Urlaub - vacation), which is a week long.

I have a customer that has already placed an order and will pick up the car in May. Usually, it is recommended to place an order 4 months before the pick up date, but it is doable even 2-3 months before. It only depends on what car you're going to pick up and how flexible you are on the pick up dates.

Now Irv, there's a dozen folks here who've had apoplexy thinking they can order a 1er now. Tell us it was another model that the person ordered, please.

ok, let me rephrase

A customer wants to get a 135i through ED, so he approached me and the deal is that he will pay a xxxx amount over the invoice price, when we know the prices. He also wants a basic model, Alpine white and sport package, so he really doesn't need to wait for the full options sheet.

A lot of people have placed orders for the 3-series back in the day as well, basically they negotiate a certain amount over the invoice price and when the pricing comes out, the paperwork is signed and the car is ordered.

Sorry if I have confused you

Irv, when peole are ordering the car for the U.S. are they limited in their choices for options and colors?
I guess you're asked this a million times but for example, what if a customer wants a color or a wheel that isn't offered,
or expected to be available in the N/A. How do you accommodate those wishes/conflicts?

Also, I've heard that BMW will paint your car any color you want...for a price. Is it true and do you know what the price is?

Sorry if these are questions you've answered elsewhere.

US cars can't be had with Euro options...you can't swap out wheels unless it's done after the fact through the dealers after sales department. They might paint a car any color, but it would probably be at least 5K or more. They used to offer that option on the X5 only, but we don't see it anymore as a choice........

not for someone that really wants the car, and knows that it will be cheaper than a 3-series. This is the only way to negotiate for a car if you don't have the prices yet.

It depends, learning from the past, i would say it's possible, but it all depends when the production for MY2008 will start. If you hold off for another 2 months, we'll know for sure and you would still have plenty of time to order one.

The only issue with August is that every Pierre, Giancomo, and Wolfgang in Europe is on holiday during the month of August.
