Wipers In Centered Position

I need to change my wiper blades. I looked in the manual and it said to hold the wiper stalk down and the wipers would center on the windshield.

It didn’t work. Blades just keep sweeping.

What am I doing wrong?

IIRC it needs to be ignition on but not started and the wiper stalk held down until the wipers centre and stop, which may take a few sweeps.

Another failed option implementation by BMW IMO. It's always been a nuisance for me to get the wipers in the service position. For those of us who see snow, it's a convenient option to leave the wipers pulled out so that they don't freeze to the windshield.

One place Audi did it better - On the touch screen, Wipers -> Service Position. Done.

Same hassle when you are drying the car after a wash and would like to put the wipers out to clean the window and wipers easier.

You can quickly pop the hood and raise it so that the wiper blades are clear to be moved…you can also wipe down the edges of the hood and wipe off any dust build up, too….win/win.

Ditto the reply above…make sure that you are following the instructions in the owners manual exactly…sometimes they can be slightly different.

For instance, on my f06 six series, it says to push the stalk UPWARD….but on the /g05 X5 it says to push DOWNWARD on the stalk. And the engine must NOT be running…but in the standby mode.

You have to have the car in Acc ,Mode not running . Hold down the wiper stalk until the wipers have done at least 3 sweeps. After they’ve gone 3 sweeps , let go of the stalk and then after the next swipe the wipers will stay in the mid position so they can be lifted to change your wiper blades . After you’ve done the blades, just start the wipers and you’re back in business.

Thanks. Worked as you all suggested. Wipers came off easily.

The 3 sweeps is the worst part if all you want to do is park them so you can lift them in the Winter. Especially on a very cold day.

I usually try to remember to park and lift them before the bad weather comes. I also at least try to remember to turn them off and not have them in the auto position . If you forget to lift them and have them set to auto, you could ruin the wipers or maybe the whole system being the sensor would sense the frost or snow. If you have them in the off position, at least you’ll be able to warm up the car and turn on the defrosters to help free them up if you forget to park/lift them .

After you have cleaned the window and want to park the wipers back in the original position after lowering them to the window, how do you do that without starting the car? I've tried it in the standby mode but the wipers don't move.
