downpipe vs mid pipe

Just wondering thoughts on which is better. Obviously, cattless has its issues. Gotta go stage 2 and need to pass emissions. Ive seen power gains either be the same at the top or maybe 12hp. Sound wise, dowpipes sound great. Just enough noise.

Mid pipe requires no tune. Sounds good but do they sound better?? Install probably charged the same. But, ive seen some gains being in the low to mid 20’s for hp.

Seems the mid pipe is more restricted than the cats potentially. I dont wanna do both as the it might be too loud. Looking for louder, most importantly, smoother sound. I dont like rasp.

I have the ER midpipe only and it works very well. A good bit of weight savings as well.

Myself and others have had good luck with the AA single midpipe. Pretty much no rasp, which I’ve heard the ER has some? Downside is AA is a little more pricey. If you really want a nice sound they’re working on an equal length midpipe. I’d love to splirge for that but can’t justify it right now. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one

I want down pipes for mine, but I’m concerned it’ll be too loud for others at startup as I already occasionally wake the baby in the morning (better with the cold start turned off, but still occasionally happens.)

I just got the ER and will be mating it up to the stock muffler with stock downpipes as it doesn't seem like the downpipes on this platform are extremely restrictive.

Definitely seems the DP’s dont give up that much. Is your mid pipe raspy?

Not installed yet, i'm not too worried about it with the stock downpipes and muffler though... I'm much more concerned about the buzz i get from the muffler on cold starts (even warm starts but always on starts)... Trucks still under warranty but not sure i want to bring to dealer...

It could be, when i put in sport it definitely changes it for the better. If i'm not mistaken the repair would require the replacement of the muffler assembly and that would include the flaps.

Its super annoying. If its a tin on tin kinda noise. Its bmw’s amazing piece of shit flaps lol. They always tend to go to shit. Any extra exhaust parts only speeds it up. Downpipes ages them in dog years.

So far it is the only midpipe in the market with proven power gain.
Here is the dyno result from my X3MC.
