Small tear on run flat from curb
Hi, I curbed my wheel today (ugh) and there’s a small tear (image attached). What would you recommend I do? Thank you so much for any advice

Thanks! first curb I’ve ever hit And sorry if it’s a dumb question but I purchased the car new 10 months ago—does it make a difference to buy a new tire at the dealer or just any tire shop?

For future reference, if any part of your sidewall is broken or torn, the tire is toast. It could suddenly fail at any time and is no longer safe to drive on. It should be replaced at the earliest opportunity.

Just make sure you're purchasing EXACT like for like. The key thing is to check if the tyre has a star (*) marking on the sidewall. As your car is on OEM tyres, there's a 99% probability that it will have. That means that the tyre is a BMW-optimised tyre. Even if you buy a replacement of the same brand and type, if it is NOT star-marked, it will have subtle differences in its construction. You do NOT have to buy star-marked tyres from BMW (usually they will be more expensive) - just make sure that whatever tyre shop you go to gets you that exact tyre. To be clear, you don't have to use star-marked tyres on your car in future, but make sure if you're replacing just one that is identical on all respects to the one on the same axle. If you have a significant wear differential, you should replace both, or at the very least if you have a square set-up and can do so, put the new tyre on the back. Hope that helps. |

Thanks, I will check for the the star tomorrow. My car only has 4600 miles on it so I would assume the tires wouldn’t have too much wear at this point where I’d need to replace two?
