Navi & Dynamic Routing

I see that the navigation system offers dynamic routing with real time traffic updates. How do we know what markets this is offered in? Also, is this BMW's guinea pig for this system?

This system has been in place in the USA BMW Nav since MY2007, in Europe since MY2004...

Navteq is the company provides the navigation software for most BMWs

Apparently they rolled out the real time traffic updates to the following markets in June 07

Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco/Oakland, San Jose, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa and Washington DC.

However if the system in the 135i isn't Navteq and runs off the RDS(FM) traffic feed, then most major cities should have this already, especially if you have a TV station that provides real time traffic reporting. That is an indication that the FM traffic update is available, since that is what they typically use.

Regardless of MOST or I-Bus Nav based system, the TMC in all BMW's is done thru RDS traffic data; Navteq is just the mapping software. The 135i will not be the exemption in the USA as it is also used in Europe's 1 Series.

Here's the web page for Navteq. As always, they're more than happy to sell you a new map as time goes by.

Not that I condone it (or commend it for that matter), but there's always this thread on e90post, where people share the newer version.

BMW does use Navteq.
