Posible Overheating solution??

Hi, im new to the forum. Just placed my order on an AW 135 today:thumbup:

I just came across this Cry02 cooling system in one of our crap local magazines, and i was wondering if it wouldnt be a fix for the 'supposed overheating problem' with the 135, even if it is just for track days? I read an article on it, and it seems to work really well.. But would BMW void your warranty if you had to install it? (im quite a noob by the way)

Well - that looks interesting. But you'll have to steal a whole bunch of C02 fire extingushers to make it work (since it appears to be a 'total loss' system). And of course there may be 'carbon emission taxes' you'll need to deal with.

Welcome to the gang, BTW!

Thanks! Quite a long wait though down here

Well living in SA I have never even heard of emission taxes untill now, so thats not a problem to me. And although the C02 is lost, its doesnt use a lot. ( Cost next to nothing to refill and i can do it at the local petrol station. 'Each control can be set from two seconds up to 20 seconds offering numerous duration settings. Depending on the selected settings, a 10 lb. tank can last up to 60 minutes.') So it seems that it can go a long way. The only thing that im worried about though is the warranty issue?

Those type systems are not made to run contantly but more like NOS to give you extra boost from the colder air when you need it, during a race, etc.

That system just cools the air. It doesn't address the oil cooling "issue" that some 335s are effected by. Seems to me, it would be easier and far less messy to fit a 2nd oil cooler as a permanent fix to overheating cars, rather than retrofit this aftermarket, limited use solution.

Hi team - perhaps our friends in Europe or elsewhere, where the 135 is currently, who can verify this. But, from what I understand the new 335i's with the Sport Pkg ships from the factory with a 2nd oil cooler... I am trying to find out if the Sports Pkg in the 135i will also include a 2nd oil cooler... can anyone tell us???

In the 335i the 2nd oil cooler is located on under the front passenger side wheel well....

can someone tell us if the 135 with sports pkg includes a 2nd oil cooler - perhaps even snap a photo of it for us???

A SECOND OIL COOLER...??

Your telling us that BMW went from having no oil coolers on some of their n54's to now using 2x that amount?

They all have one oil cooler, as I understand it. There was an auxiliary oil cooler missing from some cars, that's by the right front fender.

Thats not my understanding.

Let me see if I can find that service bullletin with the exploded view of that system. Nobody is questioning where the oil cooler is located, thats old news... What I am curious abotu is where is the first oil cooler that many of you seem to think exsist, is..?

Yes - if you look under the right front fender of the 335i with sport pkg you will see the other oil cooler.... this is what I saw at a dealer this past week.

Thats the ONLY oil cooler. (as I have said previously)

Damn, I cannot locate the service diagram showing the whole system including the radiator, etc. The diagram is similiar to THIS one, but with the whole cooling system.

OK found it:

Look that over and get back with me. Unless your errantly confusing a "Gearbox oil cooler"..? -or- "heat exchanger" as an engine "oil cooler"..?

?? (diagram is posted)

We are talking about OIL, not water cooled radiator fliud! Not all cars have an Oil Cooler, some have no need!

Yes, all cars have a radiator... engines would over heat if they didn't. But, again... thats is NOT what we are talking about.

Oil cooler, cools the OIL in your car. Weid isn't it? A Radiator cools the WATER in your engine... which is pumped threw your engine block to grab the heat and cool the engine.... as it does that... the WATER needs to release that heat before it gets pumped threw your engine again.. over and over. Thus a cars "radiator".

You can't ignorantly call a radiator an oil cooler when it just cools the engine block and not the oil itself!

So, can someone prove to the community all this BS about a second oil cooler..?

BMW's are efficient and they thought their twin-turbo N54 was built so good, BMW could get away without using an Oil Cooler on a turbocharged car for certain spec'd cars.

Certain cars in certain situation cut the throttle and gas to the engine when it sensed it getting too hot and close to max temp, so put the car in "limp mode"

To this day there hasn't been one documented dmg due to a hot engine, etc. BMW will add an "oil cooler" to those BMW's that didn't come with one... if you car ever goes into limp mode due to hot oil.

With such bad press, BMW has anti'd up and decided just to put an oil cooler in all n54 powered BMW's. Thus, your oil should never overheat, because it never would before... just go into "limp mode". This is pretty old news and so was the solution. Why is this still being discussed..?

Admins should know a few things about BMW's aswell.. instead of "as I understand it" style of posting.

There's a reason why your posts disappear, as is plainly clear in this latest sampling of plain nastiness and trolling.
