Alarm system + Comfort Access

I just found that the alarm system does not come standard on 135.

Does anyone know if dealer installed alarm will work/integrate with Comfort Access FOB?
and how much (parts & labor) would be reasonable from your experience... or if DIY is possible?

Thanks in adv.

The dealer installed alarm system integrates with the car/fob completely, and can be installed by you, but needs to be activated by your BMW Center, since there's programming settings involved (regardless if you have CA or not).

I have done the install on three BMW's and it's really easy.

how much do dealer-installed alarms usually run? is there a cheaper alternative, like aftermarket, that is compatible?

I believe all cars since the e90 come with the motion/tip sensor built into the ceiling mounted lighting. All you need to do is take off the side lining in the trunk, screw it down, and plug it in. The harness is already there.

You still have to have your BMW Center activate it though. If you're definitely going to buy one, ask your Client Advisor if the programming will be free. Normally, they will charge you one hour labor. CA's are a little more generous on delivery day, and you may get him/her to agree on them programming the car for the alarm for free.

e9x, e83, e85, and the 1 do not come with alarms. They however all come prewired for an alarm system. The alarm install consists of a hood switch, interior/motion sensor, a siren and a recode to activate. on an e9x, you can do the install in about 15 minutes. but it depends on how quickly you can remove the left rear wheel for the siren install. i believe the system is around 350 plus labor.

Thanks bimmertech! I believe the interior motion switch comes preinstalled on the cars though. My e90 has it anyway.

So is the factory alarm worth getting? Can we get this installed prior to taking delivery?

Clown nose still flashes upon locking the car even w/o the alarm correct? It's been a few years since I owned a BMW.

BMW assist lowjack function?

Speaking of alarms, the sales associate I spoke with yesterday says that the 'BMW Assist' program functions as a lowjack locater if the car is stolen.

My sense is that contemporary cars are a lot harder to steal than historically, maybe the recovery capability is all you really need...

It's really easy. It usually consists of the siren and ultra-sonic sensor (depends on model). The BMW "alarm" is really misleading. 99% of the alarm is already in the car.

Well when I ordered my E46 325i, I got the alarm as a factory option so once the car got here, they installed the alarm free of charge since I ordered it with the car.

Don't know if that still applies though.

Factory purchased/installed alarm and Comfort Access system aside, does the car come with keyless entry (i.e. remote lock/unlock or do you actually have to stick a key in the door)?

The 135 will be my first Bimmer.

The chorus of ignored car alarms in my area is loud enough that I don't think they need another baritone note from my BMW....

all bimmers come with keyless entry. an actual key slides out of the remote in case of remote failure.

Once you have the system installed (standard on UK cars), how do you disable the interior protection when necessary? - Can't seem to see this in the handbook. Oh, I have comfort access if that makes a difference.
