Any risks of running TU fuel pump on gen 1 B58
Hi folks. I currently have a 2018 540i so obviously it has the gen 1 B58.
I was always planning on running the car with stage 2+/stage 2 HPFP. I just received the TU pump (Supra pump) from the higher output B58s. It's a Bosch part and the part number is: 13518631642 I've been reading about how since the TU pumps run double the pressure, there is a risk of injector failure on the gen 1 B58s which can cause them to fail open and flood the cylinder which results in engine failure. I've also read that the DME cuts fuel pressure to safe levels. Has anyone run the HPFP for a long period of time or have more info on this? I'd love to run it for the power and torque but I want to keep this car for a long time. Thanks |

The running ethanol really wakes up the B58 and IMO was a huge jump for 91 tune -> E30 tune also helps with the smell/fumes from going catless highly highly recommended. Only thing that really changes day to day is the louder ticking noise from the new pump. |

![]() I really wish I did lol, I heard you can reduce the torque on upshift to hear it but I never got to get it dialed in correctly. |

That's odd.. I'm on BM3 stage 2 98 map with XHP stage 3 and definitely get them if shifting in Sport+. Are you running a pipe and different exhaust system or is that still stock?

The pump by itself won't run higher pressures, the ECU targets the pressure, so while the pump has more capacity, unless the car is mapped for higher pressure, you won't get it.
The TU pump will however flow more at the same pressure. |

I have both pumps but, using the stock fuel pump as of now. I removed the TU pump because I went from Stage 2+ back to Stage 1 93 octane. There's now a Stage 1 93+ map on the BM3 website. Should I use the TU pump or keep the stock fuel pump? Any advantage or disadvantage when using the TU pump with a Stage 1 93+ map?
