[INFO] Coding Sunroof to auto-close when it rains

In light of the guy here who got his interior rained on because the sunroof was open, I decided to see if the auto close function can be coded on the G30. IT CAN!! Credits to this post over the G05 forum.

Tried and tested on G30 LCI.

HEADUNIT (HU_MGU)
• EXPERT MODE: 3000 HMI_SPEECH > REGEN_SCHLIESSEN = aktiv [Add sunroof close to iDrive menus]

ROOF FUNCTION CENTER
• EXPERT MODE: 3009 SHD > Regenaktiv = aktiv [Activate menu selection in iDrive]
• EXPERT MODE: 3009 SHD > Regenaktiv_robust = aktiv [Sunroof close in rain]
• EXPERT MODE: 3009 SHD > StatusRCTime = Defaultwert [Default time for closing]
• EXPERT MODE: 3009 SHD > Regenposition = geschlossen [Roof fully close in rain (set to close to tilt mode otherwise)]

It uses the same rain sensor your wipers use to detect rain. To test, open your sunroof, lock your car, then pour over the sensor that's in the middle of your windshield (below the KAFAS camera). The sunroof should automatically close.

On iDrive, the option will be on:
Car > Settings > Doors/Vehicles Access

How long is it “active”? In terms of looking for rain? 1 hour? 8 hours? 1 day? Curious if there is a point where it goes into a deep sleep and you might still be at risk. Like being at the beach all day and the weather goes south after 5 hours of something.

This is a seriously good option, and I don't understand why it's not enabled by default.

My only concern is if this option enabled will drain excessively battery.

Very cool and very useful. Have you come across whether this is do-able for pre-LCI?

I don't have a covered spot for my car to test this. It should be easy to test if you have a spot to safely keep your sunroof open.

Liability reasons probably. Heck, you can't close your trunk with the key in the US.

It shouldn't. No different than the proximity sensor on your phone being constantly on.

The pre-LCI and LCI uses the same Roof Control Module (61315A7C489) so I don't see why it wouldn't. The only issue would be IDrive 6 having a different variable to show the checkbox on the infotainment. But it's worth checking for it because they sometimes don't change it.

Not in the US but it's enabled by default in other markets.

Pre-LCI here: I love it but the only problem I've had with it is that when you wash your car it panics and the mirrors fold and unfold constantly (and the sunroof shade also opens and closes)

Even if you force the car to remain unlocked, the moment it detects water it goes into panic mode.

Hopefully those that have the option enabled by default will check in with the details. It's probably in their owners manual (at least the digital version embedded in iDrive). ]

Somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind...I thought I'd read that it will close the sunroof when rain is detected...and after 6 hours will close the sunroof regardless of rain or not.

EDIT:...the answer was in the very 1st post found at the link that was given above that had the coding parameters:

It is supposed to close if it detects rain or after 6 hours of being left open. Sometimes I see an error about it on the dash when I open the door to get into the car, which disappears quickly.

Despite being switched on, it does not close after 6 hours. I am not brave enough to see if rain triggers it.

Here's the full text in a non-US manual:

For closing when it is raining
Principle
An open glass sunroof is automatically moved to the raised position when it starts to rain or six hours after the vehicle has been locked.

Operating requirements
▷ It must be possible for rain to reach the touch control box in the area of the rear-view mirror. The touch control box may be obscured by a car port or bridge, for example.
▷ Vehicle must be in rest state.
▷ The function must be activated in the settings.

I've coded my Pre-LCI (2017) with the instructions, and rain closing does work, but I'm trying to figure out how to extend the time the sunroof stays open before it auto closes. I'm assuming that the StatusRCTime variable is for the time delay for closing, since the "default" is "06" and the IDrive menu shows that it will automatically close in 6 hours.

I've tried setting this parameter to Not-Active, and to custom variables like 09, or even 0C (hex for 12) hoping I could extend the time, but it seems like the module just ignores anything that's in StatusRCTime, as my sunroof still closes after about 6 hours.

Anyone successfully been able to extend the time beyond 6 hours, and if so, what setting did you do? Maybe I need to update the software on the FDZ2 module?

i tried this in my 2020 Pre-LCI and using bimmercode, this section said:
ROOF FUNCTION CENTER
• EXPERT MODE: 3009 SHD

no codable options available. Is this a limitation of bimmercode or am i out of luck....

It's been a while since I coded mine, but have you tried just turning the ignition in the on position (without engine running), or put the car into diagnostic mode (from off position, press the start/stop button 3 times quickly)? I think that's how I managed to get all my options to show. I was using Bimmer Utility, but it should be the same in Bimmercode Expert Mode.

Mine does this because I'm blasting the CA handles with water. If I put my fob in the house when I wash the car nothing happens.

I discovered that with my 2012 535i w/CA. I now put the key in the house after I've parked the car in the driveway.

Just coded my 2023 M550 with the 3009 SHD selection to fully close except the iDrive option and tick box says it will go to tilt. When I tested, it immediately closes fully, not to tilt, as soon as it detects water. Cool option and I feel better about this since I will sometimes park the car with the roof tilted to vent. Never did this on my prior 2019 540 but should have.

I have a G20 LCI with iDrive 8, obviously, and everything was set to "Aktive".
I only had to change the tilt to full closing.
However, I don't have the menu in the head unit, although it's set to "Aktive" in the head unit code.

Thank you for mentioning this - I just figured it was water hitting the lock sensor at just the right way, or some thing
