B48 water pump and thermstat

I have a third party warranty and my local shop is trying to submit a claim to replace the water pump and thermostat. They’re also trying to squeeze in 6-7 coolant hoses in the claim, which may or may not be covered under the warranty contract. Shop’s rationale is once you mess with these hoses, they’re prone to fail. Car has 69k miles with Dinan handheld tuned 93 octane.

What’s insane about this claim is the estimate. Right now it’s close to $4000, some of the hoses nearing $200 and 6 hours of labor at $185 an hour. Shop knows about FCPeuro, but claims FCPeuro don’t sell ‘genuine’ BMW parts even though they list them as such on their website. I estimated all parts including the hoses to be about $1000 searching through FCPeuro, but the shop is trying to charge $800 to the warranty company just for the water pump. Shop said they need to mark up the part prices to keep their lights on.

The estimate seems outrageous and I’m concerned the warranty company will tell me to go pound sand. Thoughts?

Theyre probly jacking up the prices thinking the warranty company will just cut them a check and call it a day. Curious if they’re the ones that diagnosed you need a water pump and what issue you were having, already seems shady on the markup cost.

I noticed the coolant level was slowly getting lower and traced the leak to the weeping hole on the water pump. The shop agreed with my diagnosis but damn $4000 for all that?

Did you get a second opinion? Or is that your go to shop. That’s way too much

Definition from the net:
OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. OE stands for original equipment. OE parts are the components of the vehicle as it’s made in the factory – all of the original parts that the car was first built with. Once the car comes out of the factory, everything else is not an OE part.

I have used FCPEuro a lot and they do try. You can usually find BMW OE parts easily since they can be 2 or 3 times more. Watch out for OEM labeled parts that are not (not a problem with reliable vendors).

I’ve ordered parts from FCPeuro many times and never had a problem. This shop is insane. Look at the attached estimate. I didn’t ask for part numbers yet but I know these prices are super inflated to “keep their lights on”.

That quote you have is amazing. They are in the wrong business, as they have great skill in creative writing.

I paid $186 for the water pump, $29 for a gallon of coolant, and $443 for labor.

Did they replace any hoses as a preventative?
