iPod Adaptor Functionality Questions
I just put a deposit on 135. Can a current owner tell me what does the iPod and USB Adaptor AND the iPod Interface Adaptor actually do, and if they are happy with?

1. It lets you control your ipod with the stereo
2. lets you use a usb drive (flash or otherwise) to store and read mp3/aac files. Does anyone know if the usb option supports any lossless formats (ALC)? |

iPod thingie works great with Nav
I've got the Pro nav and I get all of my playlists and genres on the nav screen just the way they are on my iPod.

I just connected up my ipod to the usb using the apple lead that came with the ipod, but the idrive wont recognise any track names or playlists. Do I have to buy the specific lead from BMW??
Hope someone can help! |

Yes, you need a specific adapter from BMW with a line out connector on it.

This thread made me go out and connect my I-pod. WOW that's really cool. There is a two to one split connector cable that connects to the two connection ports in the arm rest and the single end to the I-Pod.
Then turn on the I-Drive system, go to Audio, then Aux and your whole I-Pod play lists are there..........select and play. When playing a selection, select it and add details. Then whenever you change to another selection it shows the artist as well as the song name. This may be matter of fact to many of you people out there but I'm not a real tech type and the ease at which this was done was amazing........ I-DRIVE ROCKS He He He.......can't do this in my wifes' Cayman.........she's gonna be pissed

Paul, that cable doesn't come as part of the 6FL/USB package in the UK? It does come as part of the package in the Colonies. 40 Pounds is robbery, if you ask me, akin to those Big Box store $120 HDMI cables.

OK, just quess I'm ignorant. Are we talking about a USB 1.8" or 2.5" portable HD? If so I'd love a brand and model to research.

thumb drives are flash drives, 1.8" hdd and 2.5" hdd also comply with the usb mass storage specification, which the bimmer is really looking for.

The good thing about the ipod is the playlist options. The menus on the idrive match the ipod. I suppose you can set other USB devices up with menus, allthough the ipod is the probably the most compatible.
