Tune-up 128i vs. 135i

This maybe posted elsewhere. If so I'm sorry (I'm new to forum/chat boards). After warranty period, any " extra" charges for tune-ups on turbo vs. non-turbo engines? This could be a significant factor if you plan to purchase the car and keep it for several years.BMW's aren't inexpensive cars to purchase or maintain. You play you gotta pay! Anyone out there got any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by "tune-up" as current (non-turbo) BMWs specify replacement of spark plugs and O2 sensors only at 100,000 miles. At 85k miles, my E46 is on the original plugs, wires, coils, injectors and exhaust system and it seems stronger than ever. The only maintenance I've found to be particularly expensive is the brakes, which are roughly $500.00 per axle as rotors generally need replacing along with pads. Of course, they are covered for the 1st 4 yrs./50k.
You might check with a dealer to find out if there are additional turbo maintenance items and the cost.

BMW come with a 4 year maintenance plan. You don't pay for any of that, for the first 4 years.

this will be my first bimmer... how much more should I expect to spend vs. a VW?

it seems to me that fixing this car is super expensive (I plan to extend the warranty to 100K), but otherwise although oil and brake changes are more expensive, they are also a lot less frequent than what I have to do to my 10 year old car...

Since the first 4 year/50,000 mile maintenance is free, it should be much cheaper than your VW.

After the free maintenance period, an oil change (7 quarts of 5w-30 BMW synthetic + filter + labor) is about $100 at a dealer. The oil change is called for at about 15,000 miles or once a year - although for peace of mind, I have mine done at 7,500.

thanks for the info!

actually free maintenance won't make much of a difference for me... I drive about 6000 miles per year so by the time it expires I'll barely have made any maintenance to the car... I also have a great shop where I will take the car afterwards... much cheaper and better than the dealership!

The 4 year/50k miles is perfect for me. I drive about 12k a year.

I am also worried about keeping the 1 past 4 years???????????

Why? Just get an extended warranty right before the original one expires and you should be good if repair costs worry you.

I did not do it for my VW and the cost of repairs has been quite high. I would never keep a car w/o warranty anymore....

is it 4 years/50,000 miles, whatever comes first? thats what I thought but from what I'm reading, I get the impression that it is whatever is later...

Garage List
If you take car of the car, your BMW will last forever. BMW's engine and drivetrain are extremely dependable.

it's whatever comes first. any add on warranty, CPO or not, will not be as comprehensive as the factory new car warranty.
