Anyone install a Short Shift Kit Yet - SSK ?

Having driven the 6-speed a couple weeks ago,..and with mine on order,..I was wondering if anyone has installed a Short shift kit yet,..and their impressions of it?
Although the std shifter is pretty good,..I think it could stand a little "tightening up"
Also,..how difficult of an install was it? (Was it necessary to lift the car to install it?)

Eunoracer PM'd me and said he wouldnt bother with the short shift kit for now.
Guess it's around $300, plus it sounds like a PIA to install. Raise car, drop exhaust,...etc. Allso said he doesnt notice that much of a diff. Not sure what brand shifter he has,...but it sounds like the $$ would be better sppent elsewhere. )Dinan or Wheels.)

I was just on UUC's site a few minutes ago and they had the 135 and 335 listed as "new" availability for the EVO3.

anyone know what exactly is involved with installing a UUC short-shifter? Simple job or a lot of work? thanks.

I guess I'm spoiled from my past experiences with Honda/Acura but this 135i definately needs a short shifter and I can't wait to get one installed.

See my post above .
Eunoracer gave me the 411 on his SSK. Doesnt sound worth it.
Not sure what brand he had though?

that uuc looks great... but I looked at the instructions and looks labor intensive, well not really just annoying tedious things like move exhaust etc

Every SSK I have ever installed was somewhat labor intensive.

I can install and remove the short shifter for the RX-8 in about 7 minutes.
I have the procedure memorized, irrelevant of which actual short shifter you use.
It really depends on what layer crap that the manufacturer puts in the shift tunnel. Mazda is pretty good about it and all you really have to avoid is the seat heaters and navigation controls.

I can't imagine BMW putting that much crap in the way of the shifter, but I haven't ever taken one of their cars apart so I'm not going to claim to be a subject matter expert.

You guys may want to contact Richard Paul at Axial Flow Engineering. He did one of the best SSK's for the RX-8 and S2000 and it was very affordable at $225. I've had mine for 3 years now and I love it.

EDIT: Just looking through their manual on how to do this, I can see why you guys would say this is labor intensive, lol. Raising and lowering the transmission just to install a shifter.. fun..

I know that some cars would be easy. The 300ZX Twin Turbo I put one on was not the easiest thing in the word. My old '97 M3 was a real chore, but in the grand scheme of things not too bad....just time consuming.

Consider how many times your hand touch's that shifter and moves it and the time it takes to install it becomes very irrelevant. JMO

It sounds like you need to lower the tranny down a little to get the shifter out. My GTO is the same situation. I waited until I had exhaust and bushings to go in and then did the shifter at the same time, that way you've already gone through a lot of the trouble of raising the car and dropping the exhaust. I'll probably do exactly teh same thing with this car.

OK, I just ordered the UUC short shifter (as well as the Zeckhausen CDV faker). Will let eveyone know how it is when I get them put in (thought don't expect anything until next weekend).

Yup, if I'm going to be tearing this car apart I'm going to wait until I can make a weekend out of it. Though that just means I have to wait longer to save up for parts
