Was anyone offered the additional warranty on brakes and / or tires?
In Canada
I could have easlily dropped another $3k-5k on additional warranties. They wanted $800 for warranty of the tires. 3 yr. additional warranty on brake rotors and pads for $800. 4 year for $1900. What do you think, are these tires actually going to cost $800 each? Would the extra warranty on rotors be worth it?

Unless you are very hard on equipment, I doubt you will go through a set of rotors in 3 years. On a car with a manual transmission, your pads should even last at least 3 years.
Like I mentioned in a previous post, you can buy a new front and rear OEM tire in the States for less than the cost of the warranty. Buy one each and leave them in your garage in case you ever need them. The only ones that benifit from extended warranties are the people selling them.

Are we talking about warranties or are we talking about wear parts servicing?
I thought that the deal in Canada right now is that if you buy before June 30th you get the wear parts servicing in addition to the regular servicing?

To be honest Ive never seen a tire warranty being honoured. Those brake and rotor warranty are shady. Too many variables and can easily being voided.

I have previously bought road hazard from a FountainTire and it was honoured when I got a nail on the sidewall.

Is this for the whole Canada? cause I went to my dealer last week to place an order for a 08' X5 4.8i and paid for the tire warranty for $799. Never was told the wear and tear items was included.

I am thinking about the rim/tire warranty. A big pothole could crunch a couple of tires and bend the rim pretty quick. As part of the financing, BMW threw in the brake wear and tear, but my last set of pads in my current car lasted over 130,000 km, so I don't think I would pay for this warranty.
The last one I'm not sure about is the paint protection coating thing. I don't think it is worth it. Anyone have experience with this? My guess is that the car comes with this coating from the factory and they just try to get people to pay more once the car arrives. |

The rim/tire road hazard is something all together different than the wear parts service. It is sold for anywhere from $600 to $900 depending on the dealer. If you were lucky enough to go to the 1 series driving event you got a certificate to get it for free if you buy within the next 90 days.
Wear parts service is brakes, belts and things like that not the tires. I thought it was a Canada wide program where the 1 series was given this extra servicing option up until June 30th. And, as noted above, it is only if you lease, not buy. Oh, and paint protection is redundant.

Yes paint protection is a joke. It will last for three washings if you are lucky.
The sales made from the business office of the dealership often bring in more revenue than the sale of the car.

These "warranties" are nothing but scams by the dealers to get your $$. After you negotiate a deal with the sales team, off to the P/I person to soak more out of you. I fell for that routine the first new car, not on anymore!

I am on my 38 month of my 39 month lease on a 325i manual transmission and I just replaced my front rotors and brakes - rear brakes still have 8mm left. |

How can you go through a set of rotors in 38 months? How many times have you replaced the pads?
I just hit 44,000 kilometers and 3 years on my S2000 and I have about 20% left on the original pads front and rear. Just depends how hard you drive I guess.

BMW just replaced the rotors - there was no cost to me as when I leased the vehicle the additional warranty for brakes was thrown in. I just hit 64,000 kms - I do alot of city driving with my job - like you said it just depends on how you drive.

The pads and rotors were original equipment and replaced at 59,000 km about 3 months ago. Rear pads are original equipment with about 8mm left. What is funny though, when I got the car the Business manager said that I was lucky that this was being thrown in because I would have to have the brakes done at about 24,000 km. With my Honda Prelude I didn't replace the front pads until 140,000 km and when I sold the car it still had the original rear pads, that was a manual transmission as well. I do find that the BMW brake pads are softer and wear quicker than most other pads out in the market.

Folks,
I picked up my 135i last week, and I DID receive the wear items coverage, included in the price, and I purchased the car. I did not lease it, as stated earlier in the thread. |

I was told by one of the managers for BMW Canada, at the 1'er drive event, that it was lease only. So he didn't know what he was talking about or you got lucky. I know you didn't lease but did you finance with BMW?

So an extended service warranty covering brake replacement for $800 may be a good deal for folks who drive mostly in traffic and/or drive an automatic transmission. Tom |
