Rubbing with 19" rims

i put a set of 19" rims on my convertible 1 series (M pack), its fine with regular driving. but when ever i go over speed humps i have to brake to under 5mph or i get rubbing on the wheel arches when the wheels bang upwards due to the hump. is there any solution to this ?

i could have the arches rolled out although this may ruin the look of the car???

i could have the car raised 1 inch, but will this ruin the M suspension i had to pay extra for or the ride quality drastically???

i could buy a set of tyres with a lower profile than the ones i currently have on, but will that make any difference???

thanks for you feedback

Why would you want 19" rims on it?

I think you have made mistake fitting 19" wheels.

A 36HH rack on a chick doesn't work/look right for the same reason a 19" wheel (with probably the wrong offset) doesn't work/look right on a 1 series. I call it 'Proportion'.

With that said, you can try a lower profile tire as well as stretching a less wide tire on the rim. I would try to sell/return those 19"s though, as those sized wheels are actually 'ruining' performance on your car.

If you really want to keep the 19's, get a lower profile tire.

What size tires are you using on the 19's ?

Rolling the fenders shouldn't change the look of the car.

Do the tires stick out with the offset your using, or are they tucked in more?

Personally I will leave the 264's on my 135i. They look great, and they are designed for the car. Plus they are probably pretty strong even though they aren't forged.

the tyre size at the moment is

235/35ZR19 91W XL

the do stick of a tiny bit beyond the back arch i think, maybe in line with the arch but definately not behinde the arch

I don't really see that size posing a problem...most likely the offset is just a little too high. got any pics?

Are you saying the rear hit over RR tracks or do the front hit when cornering? More info please.

I would maybe suggest a 225/35/19 in front and a 255/30/19 in the rear. If you want the same all around maybe 235/30/19, 225/30/19

Sounds like you rear offset is too high. How much space do you have between the back of the rear wheels and the shock? Pictures would be worth 1000 words. Nate

Yes, more information is needed. First, what is the offset of the wheels? Where, exactly is it rubbing? The fender liners on the 1-Series seem to intrude into the fenderwell more than on some cars. And as previuosly noted close-up pics where the rubbing is occuring would be very helpful.

i fixed the problem the edge of the tyres was hitting the inside edge of the wheel arches.

so i change the tyres to ones with a more curve edge, than the square edged ones before.

now it runs fine on 19's and i can even go over speed humps at 35mph with no rubbing or banging

Lower the car, put some camber on it. Also get smaller width tires and lower profile would all help.
