Retrofitting front PDC
Since front Park Distance Control isn't available in north america, has anyone tried a retrofit?
Never did quite understand why bmw never offered it in US and Canada.

Its offered in the US, I have it ordered on my car... I would be stunned if its not offered in Canada too.

I think it is only offered on the rear. Are you saying you ordered front PDC? It doesn't show up on any of the price lists.

I ordered just the rear... I did not see an option for it on the front of the car... But there again, I can see the front of the car just fine and only really wanted the rear.

'Angel Wings' - Rear PDC
Quote:
You can use PDC and the rear view mirror to back in close to a wall. Look for the 'angel wings' in the rear view mirror - the pattern of the backup lights reflecting on the wall. When you see the 'angel wings' crossover and disappear uner the trunk lid - then you are about 2 inches away from the wall. Of course, that depends on your seat height and relative position of your eyes to the mirror, but for my situation that is how it works. By the way, if you are tight up against a wall, be careful opening the trunk lid, as the lip will scrape against the wall as it opens. The geometry of the trunk lid opening causes the lip to slightly exceed the rear bumper by about a half inch or so.

i have the rear, curious as to whether or not it's possible to retrofit the front ones, i'll ask my dealer
It's so when my significant other drives my car she doesn't run it through the wall.

One phrase comes to mind: "You must be this tall to drive." while pointing to a mark on the wall. :P

Anyone ever dig into this any further? I know you can order it on UK spec cars. I'd be curious about a retrofit as well. My googling of the topic hasn't yielded anything good.

I never understood why you need front PDC until I was recently in Hong Kong with my cousin parallel parking in a super tight spot. Front PDC helps knowing how close you are to side swiping an adjacent vehicle.

I love my front PDC. Very handy when parking in a tight parallel park.
