audio from mp3 playback

**EDIT**
Mixed CD problem confirmed on 2008 CDN 135i!
**

There is a post on another board where someone has noted that the 2008 head units can not play back continuous (live mix, dj mix) mp3's without inserting a 2 second pause between tracks.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=275808

BMW's response to the poster makes it sound like this is only an issue with the HD radio- has anyone run into troubles with the standard radio and mp3 playback?

That is unnerving, a lot of us have not ordered yet & I really wanted HD radio option. Now I'm not so sure...would like to heard from other current owners about this issue. :iono:

No problem here.

I have the standard "BMW Professional" in my 2008, Canadian 135i. I have no problems playing MP3 files on CD's that I have burned myself. The head unit displays "MP3 Player" and allows me to display, select and play any of the files on the CD.

Lester - Thanx for checking that! I assume you do not have the HD radio option?

Nice1 - I see you do have the HD radio, do you have any gapless track audio CD or MP3 CD's for testing this?

Following that above link, it seems to say the HD radio electronics has a design flaw that injects a signal between gapless tracks. Course, one must take this with a grain of salt, but 2 posters(both with the HD option I presume) had problems with playing gapless tracks. :iono:

any concert/live type cd burned to mp3 should work for testing. unfortunately, my 1er is still en route. i'm still unclear if the reported defect is for all continuous tracks or those burned to mp3. it also appears from that post that he/she was experiencing problems playing back mp3s on CD. if that was the case in the 1er, we should have heard about it by now.

The poster reporting that "defect" does not have HD radio. Here's a cross-post at e90post.

ISSUE CONFIRMED IN 08 Canadian 135!

I tried out a mixed CD this AM and the head unit does add a split second break between tracks!!

BRUTAL!

This feature has been around for years in factory and aftermarket decks. It is in excusable that a premium car does not have a half decent radio.

Lets see what the dealership can find out on the issue. Will keep you informed....

(I have a standard radio (non HD) and non logic 7 system)

Just how bad is it while at high volume? Slightly annoying or totally un-listenable?

BTW from all the posts I've seen in other forums, I do not believe this problem is a HD radio issue. Rather an issue with all the 2008 HeadUnits. But I wonder just how bad a problem is it & aren't most of us going to use iPod or USB devices anyhow?

It doesn't make it unlistenable - it just negates the point of a seamless DJ or live mix.

Its just enough to irritate you off each time the track changes.

Gaps like that would totally ruin the listen experience of something like Pink Floyd, The Wall.

Most of the song change and the listener doesn't even know they are on a new track... having a pause in the middle of "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" & "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt 2" would ruin both songs and just wouldn't be worth listening to in your car.

BMW should be ashamed of themselves.
