BMW Performance Front Rotors DIY

This is very simple installation and should only take 40 minutes or so to install.

All you will need is:
Jack (optional rubber protector)
10MM Allen socket
6MM Allen socket
17MM Socket
Torque wrench
Bucket

1. Before Pic. Break free your lug nuts with 17MM socket. Do not loosen too much.

2. Jack up the car. I have the sport springs so I needed to find a nice spot in my driveway for enough room. A quick tip to save your jack points looking nice is to either buy a rubber spacer for your jack, or like me just cut the sole off an old shoe...works great! Remove the wheel.

3. Notice the bolts have white paint marks showing the line up points. If they are not marked well enough, mark them better with a Sharpie. Use your 10MM Allen Socket to remove these two bolts.

4. Use a bucket or something to rest the caliper on, do not let it just hang!!!

5. Remove the bolt holding the rotor on with a 6MM Allen socket. (I missed a pic of this during the install, but this pic shows the bolt) Remove the rotor and put the new one on. Tight the 6MM bolt. No need to torque it down a bunch, just make sure it is tight.

7. Put the caliper on and tighten the two 10MM Bolts back and forth until the white marks line up. It is a lot of torque to get them there, but I am not sure the exact amount.

8. Put back on the wheel and snug tighten all lugs in a star pattern. Lower the car and torque the lugs to 88 pounds.

Your done, do the other side and have a beer.

call me crazy...but i think the rotor are on the wrong side...if i recall correctly the slot should facing the other direction.

Here are some answers.

I paid $105 each from Dan at United, I have only put on 4 miles since installing them, so they feel the same so far.

There is not a seperate right and left rotor, so the slots run different on each side...which is perfectly OK.

I was going to weight them but forgot, maybe the next guy can...but yes them did seem lighter during the install.

My last track day the stock ones temp at 305 degrees after a 20 minute session, I will temp these at my next event June 5th and post the results to see if they run any cooler and or feel different at the track.

Chris, please weight yours when you get them. I can not believe I forgot to weight mine.

I weighed them on a UPS approved Toledo scale:

21.42 lbs each (Performance Rotor)

You may want to also add to do a pad bedding procedure to get a good even pad deposit onto the fresh rotors.

Unfortunately, I didn't weight the OEM rotor. I will take it to work on Fri and weight it.

*I thought some on the 1addicts did weight the oem rotor, but I can't seem to find it.

You have less friction surface now.....How does that feel?
You'll be amazed on how those things eat through your brake pads.....but if you have deep pockets.....not a concern at all....eh.

Nobody really makes pads yet. When they do I will most likely run something else when the stocks are gone.
