License Plate Frames - No Holes / Center Set
Been thinking hard about what I want to do with the bumper holes issue. I live in NJ and they require a front plate.
Was looking at this item to avoid drilling the bumper: http://www.gominigo.com/NHLPB-BMW.html However, not sure how I feel about an off-set from license plate. Any opinions? |

The Skenedesign is the best solution I could find for this so far. There are still holes but they're on the underside of the bumper where you can't see them.

I had this dilemma. My state requires a front licenses plate but the last two BMW’s did not have holes so I did not put one on. I ask a cop about it and he said if I get caught without a front licenses plate it is not a moving violation and costs $10. I have taken my chances with no licenses plate and have not been pulled over yet.
I have heard of others getting two “L” brackets from the Hardware store and mounting them from underneath where the oil cooler is and the holes can not be seen.

I bought my 97 Honda Prelude when it was brand new and the dealer did not provide mounting hardware or holes on the bumper to mount the license. I live in California where it is required to have a front license plate. I have gone over 10 years without it. I was pulled over once by a county sheriff that only used it as an excuse to see if I was driving drunk (it was just after 2AM Friday night/Saturday morning).
In my opinion, it's not worth the time or money to mount a front plate. I would estimate that 10-15% of the cars on the road in California don't have front license plates. And if you were to get cited for it, it's a fix it ticket which means you use some double sided tape and mount it temporarily to your bumper and bug a policeman when he is on his lunch break and have him sign it off by looking at the car from across the parking lot. A friend of mine did this exact thing and got it signed off in 30 seconds. |

There will be NO drilling of holes into my car. Luckily KS isn't a 2 plate state but if it was I'd figure out how to get around it. Front plates just destroy the look of a car...it's really sad.

I think the skenedesign looks great. However, if you have to drill holes you can fill them with bumper plugs (bumperplugs.com). I made some plugs for my father-in-law's 3-series and they looked just as good. They actually look like they are supposed to be there.

I live in CA, we require a front plate, I didnt have one on my last car, which also had a very loud exhaust and illegal front tints, and I was never hasseled. The only time you really get a front plate ticket is if you get a parking ticket at the same time.

I had the Gominigo plate holder on my MINI for a while... I like that no holes are drilled in the bumper, but it sort of looks like a wart
//however It is a nice solution if you don't mind the look...

I've asked several CHP regarding this and the answer I got from them. If you get pulled over and you have a bracket and no plate you would probably get a ticket. If you dont have a bracket then they wouldnt harass you about it. Just say the car didnt come with brackets to mount the plates.

Looks pretty tacky to me. I would rather just drill holes and get a center one if I was planning on putting on plates. =X For me the issue isn't the holes as much as it is having a license plate on the front period.

I ordered one of those license plates that screw into the tow hole. I asked my dealer not to drill holes to mount the front license but he told me by law he has to. Oh well, I guess the tow hole mounted bracket is a waste.

Bump, anyone order the Skenedesign bracket yet. I plan on showing my car every once in a while and am trying to figure out if I can keep unscrewing the bracket on and off without the holes on the bumper getting messed up or too big.

I agree. Just mount the factory bracket and dress it up.
