Hi All,

I would like to code carplay to my 520i 2018 G30
However, my car doesn’t have a wifi antenna and currently i am not planning to add wifi antenna.

Will this work using the usb cable/ Bluetooth or it must have a wifi connection to link iphone to carplay?

CarPlay in all G30s is wireless-only. If for whatever reason you don't want to add the wi-fi antena, it won't work.

Are you sure you don't have the antenna? Have you checked if you have any of the 3 options? Adding one is a 15-30 minute process which you can do at home.

I am not sure how to check whether i have wireless antenna or not, but this is what i have been told by “bimmer remote coding” when i wanted to buy the carplay coding.

What are the three option? Is there any way to check if have a wifi antenna?

Installing an antenna requires me to do some work to the head init which i am not feeling comfortable doing it my self without enough experience..

If you do, you have the atenna and only need the CarPlay coding

Unfortunately none of these are there. Seems like carplay USB coding alone will not work.

Did you manage to do it? I also need to install an antenna and wanted to know if it's possible for it to work without one. I also didn't feel confident installing it by myself with little or no experience.

Without a WiFi antenna, CarPlay can still work, but only via a USB cable connection. Wireless CarPlay requires WiFi for the connection between your iPhone and the car’s infotainment system. So, if you're not planning to add the antenna, you can still enjoy CarPlay by using a USB cable, but wireless functionality won’t be available. Bluetooth alone isn’t enough for CarPlay.
