New owners please check!

Had a look at the battery and found a wire just floating around not attached to anything?:iono: It has a plug attachment on the end but nothing in sight that it would be attached to. It branches off a similar wire that attaches near the +ve terminal. Can any new owners please have a quick look to see if it is the same in their cars. Cheers.

Could it be used to isolate the car alarm - kris already mentioned it.
I was wondering if its not actually connected...is it attached to a 1 series with optional alarm...they dont come preinstalled.:iono:

I'd say that's definitely a 'wire up' for an optional extra which you don't have installed on the car  unfortunately I would have no idea which extra that is...:iono:

Most makes actually fit the full array of wiring looms to all the variants of a particular model and then just wire up what the individual car has installed.

I've stripped alot of my previous cars for various DIY installs and found this to be the case with all of them

That could in fact be what it is

If there's anybody here with that option, they could confirm and solve the mystery

That battery set up is different to ours in Australia. I wonder if we miss out on the efficient dynamics "on demand" battery charging?

Dunno.

The battery is the same (they both show part number 118668-10), but that red/black add on assembly (distribution block) is different on your car.

If you look at this picture, you can clearly see that there is a different distribution block for cars equipped with iDrive (which I do not have), but i do have premium audio, which may be what those wires are for.. to go to the more powerful amp.

Ladies,
supposedly the mystery wire is...."for the battery isolation switch, which is fitted to the BMW 1series during transportation of the vehicle to Australia".

Straight from the dealers guy...

Mystery solved?

As an aside....are all those of you intending to blow your engines on your Dyno run going to let us in on how much power you're getting?
That'd be interesting.
