Fixing leather wear?

I know a lot of you here have mentioned dealing with worn leather in cars, so I thought I'd ask... How do you fix a wear spot on leather seats? My wife has leather in her Miata. Just yesterday I noticed that she has a small wear spot on the bottom of the seat because of the way her wallet rubs when she gets in and out. I alerted her to it, and she's going to try getting in and out differently to help prevent it in the future, but she wants to know how to get it fixed. Is there a kits you can buy that works well? Or does it have to be fixed by a professional to look good? Or can it be fixed at all?

Dan, it's wearing on the exterior driver's side bolster? My Miata had that issue (with only 55K miles on it). I suspect it's irepairable, I certainly haven't heard of an easy fix. Hopefully someone here has some experience with fixing that.

The same has happened on our E92.

Hence the reason why all new BMW leather seats now have new leather on the bolsters - this is obvious when comparing the E92's seats with my seats in my 135.

This doesn't help you now, but I regularly apply a product called 'liquid leather' Glypsum polish. I does light repairs on drying leather, but it obviously can't fix damage.

It may be a British product as I know Bentley, Rolls Royce and Aston are all users of the product. Not expensive at about $15 either.

I am sure that you guys can probably get a similarly good product?

It's actually in the seam running down the center of the seat where your butt goes. It's like the top most layer of leather, the part with the color and texture, has rubbed off. The car is only ~8 months old, do you think this could be repaired/replaced under warranty?

Probably not. And just to be clear, this is my wife's Mazda Miata NOT a BMW. The only reason I asked here is because there are a lot of smart car guys on this forum and I thought someone might know the answer.

My 2008 drivers side bolster started to show noticeable wear around 10,000 miles, I am pushing for warranty repair. I am not hard on it and actually try to be careful getting in and out and it still shows - crap leather.

Since your Miata is out of warranty... just look in your local Yellow Pages: upholstery repair shops

Any good upholstery shop will be able to handle this repair. And it won't costs alot either. You can also ask your dealer who they use. When I worked at a dealership we always sub contracted out cabrio and seat repairs. Cheap, fast and good repairs for customer and dealer alike.
