replacing a front axle, who manufactures the OEM part?

My mechanic is recommending DSS because there is literally a 10x diff in price. the BMW oem part is $1500, and the DSS part is $150. but who is the OE manufacturer? my google searching is failing me in finding this out

Also, after it's replaced should I get an alignment performed?
