Wheel/Tire advice ?
Hi, I’m getting my first BMW sometime in late September/early October. I’m pretty much at my financial goal and adding more for cosmetics like wheels of course, and I just see so many different set ups. I would prefer to buy 20 inch rims squared, are spacers required ? And how do i determine the size to get. I know these seem like obvious answers and what not, but I just like to be super specific and sure of what I’m doing before it turns into a bad decision later down the road. Thanks in advance!

Nothing wrong with a 20-inch square setup and spacers are not required. As far as size, you can go to tirerack.com and input your car and see what they offer. Take note of the rim width and offset. If you want BMW original equipment wheels, you will 100% know they will fit. (But OE wheels are pretty expensive.)
Regarding tires, you can probably do a "plus zero" fitment and fit a one size wider tire, e.g., 255/35R-20, depending on the wheel width.

I run a 20 inch staggered set up. I know the pain of researching wheels. I looked for around 7 months before purchasing. I run 20x9 +25 fronts with 255/35/20 and 20x10 +40 rears with 285/30/20. I had to run 10mm spacers in the rear to make them flush with the fender. The original plan was +35 offset for the rears, but didnt turn out that way. If you increased width to 20x10.5 or 20x11 with a +40 offset for the rears, ive seen pics and that fitment is flush with no spacers needed. Check profile for my fitment pics.

To echo what G30M said, the driving dynamics of a 19-inch setup will be superior to a 20-inch. 20-inch wheels are all about the look.

20x9 +25 255/35R20
20x10.5 +40 285/30R20 Is pretty much perfectly flush and considered the best specs for 20"s on a G30. My setup is identical apart from having +35 offset in the rear and it pokes ever so slightly. As said above though I'd personally recommend going for 19"s, or if you really want 20"s - upsize your sidewalls by 5 front and rear for a better ride (and look). Many on the forums have done this with good results (as long as your car isn't slammed you won't ever rub). This is what I plan to do for my next set of tires. To sum up: 19x9 +25 255/40R19 19x10.5 +40 285/35R19 or; 20x9 +25 255/40R20 20x10.5 +40 285/35R20 |
