2010 Mazda3 spied

Could the refinement approach a level that a Mazdaspeed version be a 135i fighter?

Quote:

Wearing what looks like a coat of Native American war paint, here is a cladding-free, running prototype of the next-generation Mazda 3, a car that has garnered nearly as much praise as the mighty little BMW that goes by the same name.

The redesign is thorough, if not radical. Like the all-new Mazda 6, the new 3 is expected to grow a bit in key dimensions, something we’d have verified if the darn car had slowed down enough for our helpful spy to whip out his tape measure. The front end is very different, with detailed, Mazda 6–like ellipsoid headlamps and a low-mounted grille. The bodysides, window line, and rear end are similar to the current car, save the more organically shaped taillamps and new dual exhaust tips.

Its not RWD so no. They are definitely the most sportiest in the segment. Great little cars.

I don't see why not .. coming from the larger mazdaspeed 6 and knowing what it could do .. if it was AWD (like the 6 is), I don't see why it couldn't be competition in performance ..

Very true. If the current speed3 was awd, it would be a much better car. Despite having great numbers/performance for money, torque steer in that car is awful. We'll see what they do with the new one.

An AWD Mazdaspeed 3 would be a first attempt at unseating the EVO and STi. You do not get cars like that "right" on the first attempt. I'd like to see another player in the field though.

Interestingly, the backside on the pics above looks a lot closer to the rear end of the Lancer/Evo X than it does to the current Mazda3.

If you're going to compare a Mazda with the 135i, it should be the RX8.
