Speeding bill passed

Is this for real?

http://www.wheels24.co.za/Content/Ne...0bill%20passed

Cape Town - A bill passed on Wednesday by the National Assembly will allow drivers' licences to be suspended for excessive speeding.

The National Road Traffic Amendment bill fixes a limit of 30km/h above the limit in an urban setting at which the suspension will kick in.

On a rural highway a licence will be suspended if the driver goes faster than 40km/h above the limit.

The bill also lays down rules to be nationally observed by the traffic police. They include the wearing of name badges.

I'v heard so many rumours on speeding things. But if its on wheels24 then its most prob true... Doing 160km/h and getting caught will never be nice anyway, just with the price of the fine alone. Nevermind adding a suspension

30kph over the limit here results in suspended licence and your car confiscated under our "hoon laws".

Three strikes and you lose the car permanantly

A 135i starts at R390k (no options, no metallic paint, etc), but is typically around R430k with a few options. That's AU$58k and AU$64k respectively.

Wow, and I thought we were paying a lot! You guys are being screwed monumentally. I'm gathering that, like with us, a large portion of that cost includes various taxes.

By comparison, UK OTR cost for a 135i M-Sport is GBP 29755 (AU$63,600 / ZAR 423k) and USA MSRP for a 135i is $34,900 (AU$40k, ZAR267k).

Seems ZA and UK are almost identical in pricing at the moment, the key difference being that the 135i only comes in M-Sport version in the UK.

I'm not sure about AU, but one of the most criminal aspects of ZA's high car prices is that the taxes help fund the MIDP which allows us to export cars cheaper. Yes, exporting is good for the country, but is it good when residents have to subsidise it?

Thats it, tax. But also BMW I think have a bit more of a mark up on the cars. Export credits could help too. You people are luckier than us then with BMW's because of the export credits I'd say. other premium Euro brands are similar to here e.g. Lambo, Ferrari. I was there last year and noticed the Bimmers were a good price compared to here. So were the VW's.
Yep.
