Seatbelt fraying/piling
Last night I noticed there were threads sticking out, which aren't visible in the pictures but they are single pieces of thread sticking out. In the pictures you can see the threads are not how they're supposed to be and some piling. I noticed the threads being weird a while ago but didn't think much of it, but last night I pulled out the seatbelt and the more I pulled it out the worse it was. Do you guys think there is any chance BMW covers this under warranty or are they just going to say its wear and tear?

Can you provide a picture?
I think to be safe they need replacing. I’ve never had any wear like that in any of my cars ever so that sounds like a lot of wear to me Sure the car wasn’t involved in a prang previously that caused wear? I don’t think a warranty will cover that . I’d get them replaced asap as your life leterally relies on those should be unlucky to be involved in an accident |

Usually that is caused by the belts snagging fibers from polar fleece garments. It is not a concern and not coming from the belts. It can also come from sweaters and other garments with a thick pile fabric.
I first noticed this years ago and because the belts are dark fabric, as were my clothes, I was concerned if the belt was damaged. Then, a few weeks later I was wearing a bright red polar fleece jacket and saw what was left and figured out the source. ![]() Even if it is from your belt, all you need to do is use a match to melt the fibers. |
