A word of caution re: buying oil from Dan @ United

Make sure you open the box before starting your oil change. They shipped me only 6 qaurts instead of 7. I realized this after I drained the oil (partially my fault I guess) and now I need to drive to the BMW dealership for a quart. Also, they charged me for 7 according to the receipt.

I am sure this was a simple oversight. Dan at United has HUNDREDS of satisfied customers on these boards. Everyone makes mistakes.

I'm sure he will take care of it, in fact I expect him too. Just a word of caution to others as I relied on his stellar reputation and opened the box to be unpleasantly surprised on a weekend where the parts departments (including United) are closed. Investing time into Q/R might prove fruitful for Dan and his customers

Wow, too bad about the missing quart. I would never endeavor on working on my car without even opening the box to make sure I had everything that I needed first though...

I ordered from Dan and got everything as stated. However I didn't RTFM and only put in 6 qt. Now it shows only a 1/2 qt low so have not added the 7th yet.

Mistakes can be a pisser but mistakes not taken care of are not acceptable. Let Dan know what happened and I am sure he will make it up to you.

The real lesson learned here is that you never start a project unless you are sure you have everything you need. I always count the oil containers, open the filter to make sure the o-ring is included, get all my tools out that I used for my oil changes and recheck any safety measures involved in servicing my cars.

All of the above is on you...you can't let someone else be responsible for what you should have done. But, hey, everyone can make a mistake...I forgive you. I do hope after you finished servicing your ONE you rewarded yourself by driving it like you stole it

Agreed, admittedly I should have opened the box first and that was my mistake. My word of caution was to not rely on someone stellar reputation and get into a pickle like what happened to me. It never donned on me that putting 7 quarts into a box could be difficult but I guess were all human.

Just wanted to close this thread out on a positive note. As expected by all, Dan came through to correct this mistake. He followed up this morning with an email and phone call to apologize as well as keep me as a future customer. Thanks Dan!

Final thought: Continue to order from Dan but open the box before starting any work as a precaution.
