rotor size

I was checking out Dinan's Brembo BBK and I noticed something: the rotors on the E90 are larger than those on the E46 M3:

E90 330i: 13 inch front, 13.2 inch rear
E46 M3: 12.8 inch front, 12.9 inch rear

Now I realize bigger rotors alone doesn't give you better stopping power, so why the bigger rotors? Why do BMW feel the need to put larger brakes on the E90?

Also, as far as bias is concerned, why do they put bigger rotors in the rear? Don't the front brakes do most of the braking?
