Nice drives that youve found?

I just dusted my sweet GINA off after a week in the stable. All i have to say is that Iowa is a real ish-hole and its great to be back in civilization. I havent seen a favorite new england drive thread. Anyone want to share their favorite drives?

Exploration will help to curb my saturday afternoon drinking.

A real gem of a short loop i found today. i killed no one while on the loop...

woodland road, east border road, Fellsway east, ravine road

I have been wondering that as well, and it will be especially important once spring comes around. I saw the following thing in Road and Track, but have yet to try it out.

I figure there have to be some good places to open it up in upstate Maine where there is nothing but tree and lakes... but I have never ventured too far from the coast in that regard. Anyone from Maine have any good ideas?

I am thinking road like the ones around here... though I have no ideas about these in particular.

I just found a nice one today on my way to Maine for Thanksgiving. It is certainly a ways out of the city, but it is close to 30 miles of road in white mountain national forest with no houses. There are plenty of legal passing zones throughout as well, a key attribute. It is Route 112 between Lincoln and Conway in New Hampshire. I believe the speed limit is mostly 50 mph with sections of 40 mph, which means you can have some fun.

It is a pretty fast course and there are few sharp corners, most are sweepers and you can take much to fast to be legal, but fun nonetheless. There is also one hairpin that could be fun, but the lack of visibility around the corner makes it difficult to be too cavalier. There are some significant elevation changes as well. The roads were pretty dry today but with significant snow on the sides.

Over all it was fun... I am sure there are many other drives around there that you could wrap into a day trip as well.

I probably would like sharper bends so you can have fun without having to good too fast. I am headed to Freeport tomorrow from Bethel, ME and will see what sort of roads I can find... likely not as good since I am mostly out of the mountains now.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I didn't see a single cop after about 30 miles north of Manchester (on I-93). I probably only saw 25 cars on the road over the whole 30 miles, Thanksgiving probably has something to do with it. My guess is that there would many more cars when the weather is nice and people are hiking, camping, and such.

I'm thinking the Kancamagus is probably a good group drive next summer!

If you want to get away in Northern Maine, try route 11 from Sherman Mills all the way up to Fort Kent on the Canadian border. There is a stretch where you have nothing but woods for about 30 miles. A lot of up and down some good sized hills. You do have to be watchful for the occasional logging truck on the road. It's a long way up there - Fort Kent is about 6 hours from Portland.

Another interesting drive (with a lot of traffic in summer) is around Acadia national park to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Great scenery there.

Another great ride is the Cabot trail around the shores of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia.

The Kancamagus was one of my first trips in the 1 last June on the way up to Burlington. What a great way to break in the new car. I find this little coupe to be a very comfortable touring ride.
