I just sent this thread to my SA and since I am 6 hours ahead of most of you, you all should have an answer on warranty concerns the next time you log on. Unless you are an insomniac and are having trouble falling to sleep. Just count dollar signs like I do!

This is the answer from my SA:
It could lead into a warranty issue. I have called the dealer and asked him about the pads and was told if your rotors get a damage or if you have any general issue with your brakes they will have to note that there are no original pads on and that might cause a warranty issue. Besides that the white brake pads have been available for many years and the reason why they are not standard on the cars is that they do not do as well when you apply brakes. Meaning stopping gets longer and they heat up faster so they do not as good on fast autobahn or track driving. Now in my words... "please leave the shit off and clean your wheels"

i have ran dust free pads (dfp) on all my bmws w/o any issues since 1999.
the braking performance is equal to... if not improved. the real improvement is when you get them heated up. some serious stopping power imo. keep in mind this is an improved low dust street pad... not intend for the track (most track guys would use a different more aggressive compound). as for the rotor question... the wear is the same as the normal oem pads. i had "dfp" on my '01 X5 4.4 sport for 5 years... 75k with no change of pads needed (1/2 pad remaining at 75k). warranty issues... the dealer told me... if you have a rotor or brake issue... remove the "dfp"... install the oems and bring it in for service as normal. the dealer is not going to notice the change of pads during normal routine servicing... nor care. my sales manager is well aware of the "dfp" i install. even he is going to put them on his bmw... he can't stand the dust either. i provide him with the vendor & part numbers. in the mean time... happy cleaning. i will be driving. cheers!

the dealer wants you to use the soft dusty pads... because they make more money by you having to change the pads regularly. and the dealer will always make you replace the rotors come pad replacement time. can you say big bucks.
the softer the pad (why bmw uses them) the quicker the wear & the less chance of any noise. some dust free pads do squeal or squeak (eg. hawk hps)... the rotex golds don't. like any aftermarket item... many are opposed (bmw stockers )... many are for improvement... i like providing proven results. options & choices are a good thing imo.

I run Axxis Deluxe Plus on my Z4 front and rear.
Very popular mod in Z4 community around the world. They are: Very less brake dust; No affect on braking performance (same as stock pads) No warranty issues I ordered mine from http://www.zeckhausen.com/axxis_pads.htm But they only got front fitment for E90 atm. Later when they got both f&R, and if someone going to setup a GB I will be in. :rocks:

The REAL solution to this is WheelWax (www.wheelwax.com). I made a thread on this. Do a search. The stuff works awesome and cleaning each wheel goes from 15 minutes down to about 2 minutes. This way you get the awesome brake performance BMW OEM brakes provide with brake dust gone in 120 seconds.

haha, interesting that you said that shimshimshada, I thought the same thing. Next time when they are solid grey from the brake dust, just clean the outside of the rim...not the spokes and it gives a nice effect.
