Would you guys put on winter tires on March 3rd?
Hello all. I just exchanged my Z4M Coupe for an E92 M3 last week. I ordered winter tires and they are here!!
I am itching to drive it but it is VERY cold and we know what the PS2's do in the cold. Would you guys put winters on at this stage or just wait for the good days? Spring is around the corner and I do have an Infiniti FX45 with Blizzacks on. |

Drive the infinity and don't bother with the winters. It will be +5 in no time at all, and then you will just be burning the winters away.

not worth the risk. I'll wait until the temp is consistently above 7 degrees before I change. Rolling on winter tires on 18s doesn't look all that bad so no rush to change over

Since you ahve the SUV and you are in break in period anyway, I would just drive the car on nice sunny days on the PS2s for a month. Yes, they will be like hockey pucks, but its not like you will be pushing the car in month 1 anyway. Just do not go out if POP is anything more the 0% .

If you plan on keeping the car and driving it next winter then you're just holding off buying winters that you will eventually need anways. Buy the winters and do the break in when you know you cant speed that way its all READY to be redlined when the warm weather comes along. |

If yes, then get the winters now you might actually save the hassle and effort of doing it later in the year, plus even save some dimes, since winter sets are at clearance these days at the dealerships. But if I were you, I would drive the Infiniti, and drive the M3 with its PSP tires as they came. Trust me on suny days even below freezing temp's doesnt compromise road holding ability of your M3, just dont make very sharp turns, which I suspect you won't anyways, because its break-in time Congrats and enjoy the car...post some pics for us if you havent already cheers |

I think he has the tires already, the question is should he bother changing.
The cut-off for summer vs. winters is +7 or 8 degrees. Seeing as the FX45 have winters on them, and March days are up and down like a yo-yo, I would keep the PS2s on and drive the M on the warm days to get it broken in and the FX on the crappy days. I always find it a tough guess as to when to make the switch. Any day at +10 (which there will be in March) and the winters will wear quicker than a ... (you can fill in the rest). I typically switch one of my cars over a few weeks before the other so that there are at least options if the weather makes huge swings. Obviously I am assuming you are not DIY - cause if you are then you can pretty much go with whatever you want and change based on the weather. For those of us that actually do it at the dealer with an appointment, I little more decision goes into the switch over, as there are ususually 1 or 2 Saturdays where everyone switches over and the place is a zoo. Also, there is a much lower chance of getting bad road dings on your M during the crappy days if you are driving the FX.

It only takes 20 minutes to change the tires in the laneway,so drive it & enjoy the M.Save the FX for real bad days and there will a few of those still to come.If I had snows for mine,I would be driving mine in this weather. |

I caved!
I changed them I couldn't help it. A little voice told me to do it. The M3 will be driven year round and like a lot of you guys mentioned there are lots of deals going on with winter tires. I got a good deal on the tires as well as the car. I picked it up with 22km and it is a 2008. Saved a bundle!! I do not want to say how much because some of us paid around MSRP. I had ordered my Z4M Coupe before production and had to pay MSRP - I felt idiotic when people were picking them up for 15K off MSRP just a few months later I will definitely post pics - will do so tomorrow. It is a silverstone coupe with MDrive (1.0 ie the old one), Exec Package, high-gloss shadowline, and the 18 inch rims. Nothing special - but I like it |
