replacing my winshield with OEM through my insurance
i wanted to share my experience with getting my windshield replaced. hopefully this will be helpful to anyone who needs their windshield replaced.
i called my insurance and they told me they have thousands of windshield repair/replace companies that they work with. i let them kno that i want oem from the dealer i was then told to call my dealer and have them fax an estimate to my insurance company. when i called the dealer the first guy i spoke to said that he wouldnt do that bc the process is they charge the customer first and then i have to fax the invoice to my insurance. so i asked to speak with a service manager and he said he would fax the ESTIMATE to my insurance company(getting to this point was a bit annoying). so i got a call from my insurance company saying they would cover all but $90 bucks which is the difference in 4.5 hours of the labor rate. so finally i called the service manager back and made an appointment! hope this helps somebody! |

i just got a rock break on mine a month ago. It is small...bout the size of a dime, so i don't think i will replace it unless it gets bigger.
though $90 isnt bad at all!

the crack on my windshield was longer than a dollar bill...if it was shorter than a $bill my insurance would have insisted on repair rather than replace.
the quote for the windshield was roughly $650..service manager said it included glue and a bunch of other stuff..i was just like "ok watever sign me up already!" Last edited by BIMMER//DRIMMER; 03-07-2009 at 04:51 PM.. |

Interesting....I was just quoted over $1400 for the front windshield on my 135i....I wonder what the deal is--why it is so much more for a 1er windshield?

Any chip on your windshield can be fixed without having the entire windshield replaced. They use some kind of clear epoxy. It wouldn't be perfect looking, but it will stop it from cracking any further. It cost about $60 if you want to avoid the insurance. In Connecticut, windows are deductible-free. So it was free for me. It's way better than replacing it because you get to keep the original windshield and don't have to deal with the additional cost of replacing with OEM.
The company that did mine was SafeLite. I think they are a nationwide business. |

I was wondering the same thing--but I would have thought that the sensor could be tranferred from the old window to the new? Maybe I am crazy....
Regardless--that is a ton of money....sucks too because at this time, no one else is making the 135's windshield...maybe I can just wait it out till I have a choice of vendors.
