Thumbs up Production LEXUS LF-A bows in Tokyo!

Quote:
TOKYO — Right on the heels of the announcement that the 2010 British Auto Show is off comes news today from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association that the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show, slated for late October this year, will be shortened by four days. But at least it's still on — and Toyota will make an extra effort to help stimulate the show-going public, a source tells Inside Line.
Some excitement will be generated by the fact that Toyota's new president, Akio Toyoda, will be taking over in June. Sure to be more interesting to the show-going public is this tidbit: the production version of the 600-horsepower V10-powered Lexus LF-A supercar, our source says, will not make its debut in Frankfurt but instead will be unveiled in Tokyo.
Another highlight of the Toyota stand will be the reveal of a project rumored to have been put on hold — the Toyota-Subaru jointly developed rear-wheel-drive sedan that employs an Impreza platform and drivetrain. To improve mileage and emissions of the current normally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine, Toyota has developed a unique head unit for the boxer powerplant, said to generate around 220 hp. Toyota will also display a full range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles as well as the latest EV and battery technology.

They've been building this car for so long. It better be perfect. Lexus will have their version of Mercedes SLR. It wont need to be updated very often if any. I must say that I am not a Lexus fan, but I wanna see what she can do. 600hp??

Where is T-Bone??

As odd and stupid as it may sound, the first thing I thought of is, "I wonder what the interior quality will be like."

I suck.

Amazing that they're actually going through with it. I'm impressed. Quite a ballsy move.

Thanks for the PM to pull me back in. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! (Al Pacino, Godfather 3).

I am still not convinced....these things will sell in very low volumes but will need Toyota to have specialized technical training and warranty support.

Still I do like the idea of a 600 hp Japanese car launching at Frankfurt..... Ze Germans will get angry and come over the top (I hope).

BTW, this car is FUGLY. Looks like a Prius

Haha, anytime man! I'm not prepared to argue the nitty gritty of volumes and what not. It will be the world's most reliable supercar. Thats for sure. The Supra's motors were grenade proof. I was convinced they would bring it, and you werent. Just wanted to show you the light.

I think they've managed to make it almost as awkward looking as a GTR. The rear half seems OK, but that nose looks like a cut and paste job.

Agreed....from a Prius.... Why does Japanese design suck so much? They often get the rear end right but the front is a disaster.

It looks like all new Lexus cars have the puffed-cheek look.

for some reason the front reminds me of a 300ZX. All in all, not bad.

Any ideas on pricing? With the power and engine / tranny layout, this is going to go up against the Ferrari 599 GTB...

200k sounds about right. Nothing like having a SuperCar that can go to 60k without a complete engine rebuild...lol

It looks like a half baked kit car. I can't say I like the styling at all.

But, it is a Toyota, it can go to 1 Million miles on only 0.5 quart of oil and saves the environment??

And Europeans use BMW and Mercedes as Taxi in Europe, which are manufactured by cheapest labors in continent Europe from the former Soviet Block. BMW and Merc are aspirating luxury cars, real luxury and sports cars are Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bentley. Applying the same holier-than-thou logic.
