Fit/Finish vs. Power/Handling

I was wondering how you all feel about the fit and finish vs power and handling debate. I know there are some people that decided to shy away from the power and handling to get more fit and finish, in turn drastically reducing performance for something "nicer"

ex. EVO to MKV R32 or Corvette to M3 or EVO to 328i etc...

Some people changed their minds and went back to raw... some people are contemplating going back. Lets discuss

Huh? Whose debate might this be? The one in your head?

What's up with your threads?

I know of people that come from a car such as an EVO, they value performance but the lack of interior, sound, build quality forced them to shy away from the car and move on to something else. However it was something not nearly as fast or sharp but it did have much more to offer in terms of quality...

There is a saying: Pick 2

Performance
Cheap
Reliable...

Example:

Evo driver sells his Evo to get into something German... and he either realizes he is happy with his decision, or he is considering/did go back to something not so "nice" but provided a much greater thrill.

EVO to R32...

or M3 to Corvette...

It depends, and a proper decision is made based on many unnamed (in this thread) factors. The two factors you've listed are not either/or, and they are not the only factors involved, so there is no real answer to your question.

Those are just examples, the point of this thread is to express YOUR values regarding the topic.

To be honest, it depends on the purpose of the car. For the weekend car, I could never have a 335i, or G37, though they are excellent cars. They are just too tame.

I'd fore go the fit and finish of each and go for raw performance (handling, torque, speed) because I personally find that entertaining and it adds value to my life. So C6 Vette, M3, Ferrari Modena, 997, etc.

For a daily driver, I drive a 2005 Ford Focus. I don't give a crap what I drive to work.

fit/finish has little to do with it IMO - its all about the whole package.

for example the VW GTI is not as fast as most of its competition but in most car mag tests its rated above its competition.

Last time I mentioned fit and finish in one of Forge's threads, he tried to tear me a new one. Fool me once...

I don't know why some people are bashing him for this thread... Its actually a very common type debate/ decision. For instance , right now i am deciding on whether i want 335i, mustang gt, evo, wrx, etc. Since i can only afford one i have decided to go with 335i. Because its an overall very nice daily driver. It has potential to be reasonably fast. Has a very large aftermarket, at pretty affordable prices. And you don't have to sacrifice things like build quality, fit and finish, interior etc. But if i was buying a car PURELY on the fun factor id go for an EVO hands down.
