Rock 1 Windshield 0

So 20 month lurker, waiting for a worthy reason to post. $500 from safelite to replace with non-oem glass.

I'm cruising down I-5 at 4:30am, never even saw the rock/pebble whatever. Hear a loud bang and then what sounds like a camera flash as the glass breaks.

I'm really just glad it was not the paint.

Edited to add picture correctly.

I was maybe a 100 yards behind a double UPS semi. I got the plate but I am going to just let it go.

That sucks. Good call letting it go. Probably would be more frustrating and drag it out. Not sure they'll even do anything about it even if you did call 'em out on it.

because OEM glass is soft as shit!

SOrry to hear about your incident OP, but good going on the non-oem replacement.

Just don't tailgate and try to stay FAR from trucks...

I own the car, and BMW Seattle wanted $1400. I plan on driving the wheels off the car to 250k so I don't really care.

More money for paddleshifters!

Well we can all thank you for taking the hit for us because without you we would probably all be extinct Asteroid 1 - Windshield 0.

That's caused by more than a pebble. I would suspect that an old lady didn't notice that her beloved Chihuahua exited the vehicle at speed.

Right after it happened I thought it might have been a bullet or something. However, you can see two dirt marks and an impact point. All in a line.

I was getting stares as I pulled into work this afternoon. And the cracks are getting bigger. She'll sleep in the garage at work tonight and get repaired tomorrow.

The worst part was the decompression of the cabin and the glass cracking giving me the willies driving the rest of the way home.

My girlfriend wants to know how I am not furious.

Where I live in florida, windshields are automatically covered in my insurance. I just have to pay my deductible which isn't very much. I guess you aren't covered where you live?

I believe the rain sensor is a part of the rear-view mirror, not the actual window.
