After World War 1 BMW ceased aircraft engine production because of the Versailles Armistice Treaty.
The circular blue and white BMW logo or roundel represents the movement of an airplane propeller, to signify the white blades cutting through the blue sky

Its not true- this is a popular myth. I live in Germany- the colours and design
come from the Bavarian flag.

Prop in the night sky rumor started in the late 1920s when BMW advertised their logo as a spinning propeller.

Actually it's not totally a myth BMW adopted the idea in 1929, 12 years after the logo came to life
