1) only you can determine if it's worth the money or not
2) google/search for comparisons with other cars. it has been extensively compared to its competitors by magazines 3) test drive it

It is worth 40k...best car I've ever owned, but you have to like the Dealer and loaner cars a bunch.
It IS in the same league as the new M3, just not a playoff team. G37 and Mustang??? They still lack the feel of a BMW...the Germans have it down. The car is fast...and with a tune, it turns into a beast. |

I'm not sure where you're getting a 335i coupe for 40K...unless its pre-owned (used)..Usually a new sedan can be had for that much with the current cashbacks and on-the0lot cars that aren't selling well.
It is a newer and more refined car than the E46 (2006) M3..straight line about the same or a bit faster..but def more low-end torque. You can actualy get a E46 M3 for mid-20K's or the 335i in the 40+K's. That was a decision I had to make when I bought the 335i recently. And please don't compare a 335i to a G37 or Mustang..they are different cars..test drive one and you'll see. A 335i in the 40+K range is a lot of bang for the buck..on top of that..It's a BMW. Enjoy.

Everyone said the G37 was the closest competitor to the 335i. After driving both, it was really easy to tell for me which was the better car. Not even close, imo. But, to each his own... there are plenty of G37 drivers that like their cars. Just go out there and drive a bunch and see what you like.

If speed is all you want, there are better cars out there which are more raw and fun to play with, examples STI, EVO, Mustangs, G37, 370z,
coming from a G35 coupe, i feel the BMW feels a lot more solid and provides a more engaging driving experience. Cabin tech is great, the environment of the BMW is very hard to put in words owning a BMW feels great... I believe the 50k BMW does provide a great deal of performance, and refinement in its technology and service. but if raw speed is all you want honestly a souped up civic can blow anything on the streets away LoL.

There are actually quite nice alternatives to the 3 series. There's the 370z ( fast but 2 seater ), the is350, g37, sti, etc etc. A lot of differences I've heard is that the driver feels more connected to the car than most cars. However, I do believe there are more fun cars out there like the 370z. Drove my friends and it was definately a fun ride, however, my life doesn't permit me to have a 2 seater car. It's just how much you are willing to spend to get the BMW name and the BMW quality.
edit: I also looove the 3 series coupe look. It beats anything out there by far. ( when properly modded ) |
