boost gauge has filter, do I hook that up?

I got a prosport boost gauge today and it came with a small filter. Ive never seen or heard of anybody hooking that up and was wondering if it was necessary. All the other boost gauges i've used never had one but this is my first electric. Thanks

Is it a filter or a MAP sensor?

Its a little plastic tube with a piece of foam inside. The directions call it a filter. Its a straight hose with a filter inside definitely not electrical or a sensor or anything.

you can hook it up....but probably not necessary. Might just be to collect condensation.

Im not going to hook it up. I assume because its an electric gauge that the filter is used to prevent debris from getting into the electric sender box. I haven't heard of anyone on the forum using an electric gauge hooking up the filter so i wont either.

well if the directions say to do it there might be something in the design of that gauge setup that requires it (doubtful though). maybe call the company and ask what its for?

might be used to keep small bugs like mosquitos or anything out of the display while allowing moisture to escape.

I installed the filter it's to prevent damage to the plastic box. Boost gauge works perfectly

You should install the filter. It will help smooth out the readings. It's just like why some of the better mechanical gauges are filled with water so it doesn't bounce around so much and makes it easier to read because it slows the needle down a bit - it will help keep the readings from bouncing around erratically by slowing down the pressure a bit. You'll still get accurate readings.
