Blur your license plate with a switch

http://i.gizmodo.com/189376/electron...r-bullrun-cars

I heard about some motorcycle guys doing this awhile back. I searched everywhere, but this is all I found. Its Switchlite glass. Obviously its possible, but I can't find any other info. No seller of a kit or DIY anywhere online.

its very similiar to the new windows on the boeing dreamliner that don't have covers, just a switch that turns them from clear to opaque......i saw a prototype years ago since my mom was one of the head designers.....very cool tech, i'd definitely get it here in AZ where there's an unbelievable amount of speed cameras on the freeways and surface streets.....

LCD glass. Pass a current through and it becomes translucent. Excellent for privacy glass in windows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_glass

This is a dream - now, how to automate the operation?

I want one as well, but my guess is these will be highly illegal to use on your license plates. Can you imagine going through the sunpass lane on the highway with no sunpass? As you drive through just flick the switch and there will be know way they can figure out your license plate numbers with that camera that takes a picture. Free highway driving!

I really want one!

What about car windows? Window tint that you can turn on and off, or adjust the darkness!

This has to be expensive to produce otherwise there'd be a manufacturer already. There's about 10 different companies that make units that will flip a plate down, but none have produced this yet.

that is pretty cool...but i think it would only work once or twice...the POPO would for sure remember your car and next time they spot you...its all over...can't run forever...

There are already a couple of cars that have this for glass roof panels. Can't think of which ones they are off the top of my head, but I believe Ferrari has this on one of thier cars. Maybe Maybach too - not sure... Very cool indeed...

Nice isn't it

The downside is that it needs electrical power to make it clear...when current is removed, it turns opaque. Very little draw but works well.

I know of a few corvette owners that has this. They have to be wired in to remain on all the time until you flip the switch to kill the power to mask it out.
It's not that expensive.

It draws around .2~.5 amps.
