Just wanted to introduce myself -- picked up 335xi coupe today
Hi everyone,
I wanted to say hello and thank you all in advance for the help I'll be getting from you, either from prior work you've done in the forum or from future threads. I am now the very happy owner of a 335i xDrive coupe (slushbox). I put down a deposit on a car that had hit the port in SC not too long ago. It arrived at the dealership this past Friday and was prepped on Monday. I went to get it today. I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. I purchased through Basney BMW in South Bend, IN. The car had been placed in the showroom. The plastic stand held a notice indicating that the car had been prepared for me and had my name listed and a "Congratulations!" on it. It was a simple but nice touch. It was pretty cool to see the odometer read "4." I don't think I've ever seen one read so low. I drove it about 60 miles today, just getting a feel for it. Just as I remember from my test-drive, it is truly a marvel of engineering. It just feels so balanced and smooth. (except for a hard shift from I believe 2nd to 3rd, but I'm hoping that'll smooth out with a few more hours) Cornering feels wonderful and controlled. Throttle response is great. Coming from a WRX, I've become totally used to turbo lag, so this pretty much feels like an NA engine to me in comparison. I'm sure this new car will quickly become the obsession and passion in my life, just as the WRX took over my life 6 years ago. Probably as a result of that infatuation, the only thing I found lacking in my drive today was the sort of "reckless" fun factor of the WRX. Explanation: Maybe it's just because I've become so comfortable with the WRX and have had it run rock-solid for 86k miles, but I feel like the BMW is a much more precise and technically advanced beast that needs to be treated gently, while I could throw the WRX over gravel, dirt, railroad tracks, etc without thinking twice. I know many of you came from the WRX/STi world, so I'd love to hear from you guys about your transition... And yes, I do find a huge urge already to open the exhaust... something in my head just keeps saying, "well of COURSE the turbos would like to breathe easier..." Completely irrational as the car is amazing as it is, and I should really avoid the modding bug... because I know where it leads. |
