Its c*** aint it.

But generally speaking you name any product and it will be the same value but $

eg ipods $99 .. we pay £99

Watches $999 .. we pay £999

& same with cars !

probably falls down to taxes on some level.

unless BMW sells us our cars cheaper because we buy so many more then the UK

I saw a post re NJ tax and that came to around $2K or $3K. That would only add on £1.5k to the price. The UK would roughly pay around £25k for a 325.

Not sure on price if anyone (uk) wants to chip in.

Local taxes are at fault but also the fact that BMW want to sell at a higher price here and hey can get away with it. MB are even more expensive ! Audi are cheaper.

What I notice more and more is that you almost have to have the top model BMW to have the prestige of 'having a BMW' since they are so popular with the company car drivers (becuase they tax less and hold their value better) and also with some very chavvy types too - kinda cheapens it a bit really even though we are paying more !!

Fair to say though that I imported my first 325 in 2000 and saved £7000 and then got a £5000 discount on my first 330d and £3000 off my second one in March so I guess its not as bad as it seems .... Still the cheapest cars I hav ever run by miles

The import was from the Netherlands through a broker to UK spec plus some extras. A lovely car actually. I really missed it for a while. I go so fed up with the harshness of the MSport ride after a while and I missed the quietness in traffic of the petrol. But the Diesel engine got quieter and I enjoyed the better handling if never the ride which was pretty awful. The new one is leagues better....

What is interesting to me is that premium cars are extremely cheap in the US but it doesn't extend too much beyond that. For example a Subaru Leagacy 2.5 turbo is only a few thousand dollars less than a 325 but in Australia there is a wide gulf between the pricing of Subaru and BMW that just isn't present here

So the USA has a pretty good deal - but the UK isn't as bad as some places.

The differences mainly seem to be about tax (Denmark has horrific new car taxes0 - but I also think the MRRP changes to some extent as you move around.
