2300 miles - SES light?
The orange Service Engine Soon light came on today; didn't go away after restart. iDrive vehicle status shows all systems OK. It's a 2009 335i xDrive with 2300 miles. Any ideas about what could cause the light to come on?

My guess is either 02 sensor or stuck thermostat.

Well, the light mysteriously extinguished itself today, shortly after I made a service appointment this morning. Still out after a couple more restarts, so I canceled the appointment and will wait to bring it in until the light reappears, if ever.

IMO - keep your appointment unless it's a huge PITA to go. The fault is logged on OBD, even though iDrive reported all systems okay. If it was, for example, a stuck thermostat, the SES light may come on in cold weather because a sensor reported the engine ran a too-rich air-fuel mixture for too long (because the engine was not correctly warming up). Once the weather warms up, the light will shut off, but the problem is still there, just not manifesting itself in any noticeable way.
