SRS question for a technician
Hello,
I am the second owner of an '06 330i with the sports package. Over the last 3 months the passenger airbag/SRS warning light has come on 2 or 3 times with a passenger in the seat and then either disappeared after a few minutes or stayed on for the length of a short trip (<10 miles). After restarting the car, the light does not come on, even with a passenger. I am aware of the passenger seat recall (NHTSA campaign # 08V-384) but BMW says my VIN does not fall under this campaign and there are no open campaigns on my vehicle. The symptoms seems to fit the recall, but the intermittent nature (less than once a month) makes me believe the dealer will not be able to reproduce this if I bring it in, since the light does not stay on. I do, however, want to deal with it, as it's a safety issue. My question is: Will the car store a code to detail why the warning light illuminated? If not, can you think of other explanations that would cause this and how will the dealer diagnose it? Thanks in advance.

I had the sensor in my passenger seat replaced twice. Never had to worry about recall issues, just told the SA that when my wife is sitting in the seat (yes, she wighs more than 90 lbs) the warnign light comes on. They never detailed any facts about codes showing, just took my word and replaced it both times.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, the car is way out of warranty (110Kmiles) so if they don't recognize the VIN as part of the campaign, they may not cover the repair. However, if you look at the details of the campaign, it seems as if my car should be covered (3 series with sport seats). I even spoke to a cust. serv. rep at BMWNA, and they seemed to agree. I just don't want to go through a long back and forth with the dealer. It would be great if I could get some kind of acknowledgment that it may be eligible for warranty consideration.
