puncture
Hi guys.....It's not my lucky day today.....drove over a screw and got a puncture at my right rear wheel. I have Runflat tires!
I now need to change this tire. My question is can i just buy the runflat tire myself and get a garage to mount them on....I dont wont trouble with the TMPS I believe its called........or can i just buy the tire and mount them on without problems? My tires are 255/35 18 Y - 18' Micheling Pilot sport 2 Runflat. Hope you can help me asap! thanks guys! |

??..... I don't understand what you're asking...do you want to know whether the TPMS sensor will be intact after the puncture? Unless the screw hit the sensor, you shouldn't have an issue. Take it to the garage and have them replace the tire, I'm sure they will be able to tell you whether the sensor needs to be replaced or is, most likely, fine.

The sensor is mounted outside the tire itself. Any tire place will be able to mount the new tire and reset the system.

If the puncture is not close to the sidewall AND you didn't drive fast or far, try getting it patched! I had a tire patched on both my '06 330 and '08 335 with absolutely no issues. The tire shop seemed reluctant to do it, but they called BMWUSA to discuss and they indicated that it was 'safe' to do so as long as the punctured tire wasn't driven on for long period or at high speed.

Don't take it to the dealer, that's all I'll say.

The TPMS sensor is not in the tire, it is attached to the rim.

I've driven about 150 km/h with this punture, because i didnt knew what the icon/error on the screen was.....so im gonna get new tires...thats for sure
My big issue is this: Option 1: If i order my tires from my bmw dealer it costs me: 700$ including mounting Option 2: If i order my tires online it will cost me: 465$ and then pay a garage who could mount them on cheap. So are there any problems about chosing option number 2? Thanks for all the response I love E90 for the help we give each other! |

#2 Go to a good tire shop or mechanic with RFT experience and watch them do it. |

No. Take it to a good shop and have them do it. If they know what a RFT is, chances are they know what the TPMS is. I don't know of any car with stock RFT that doesn't have the sensors.
