Differences between M Steptronic and Non M Steptronic?

I didn't know there's "M" Steptronic Paddles!? I'm talking about 3 series specifically.

Does anyone know what the difference is? Looks? Googled, but can't find anything regarding to it.

anyone know?

attached is the screen from bmw.ca

Are you referring to the Steptronic vs. DCT (dual clutch trans)? If so there is quite a difference!

on the right pic, just above the buttons on the steering wheel. Those 2 silver levers are M paddles.

on the M each paddle is dedicated to either upshifting or down shifting unlike the 3 series paddles where each paddle can upshift and downshift.

edit: nevermind thought u were asking about m3

no its not. They both have the same paddles if you look . It's just the knob and the steering wheel I think. Other than that, I can't see anything different.

Only thing I can tell from the pics are it has the M steering wheel and it has the Electronic Shifter, which I hate!

The regular steptronic is an automatic transmission that can be told to shift by the user with the steptronic controls (either on the steering wheel or the gear shift). The M-DCT is a Dual Clutch Transmission that is really a manual transmission with electronic gear switching.

The two are completely different.

EDIT: I am talking about the difference between a 3 Series and a Real M3, not the M sport package.

i believe the only difference is if you get the msport, you get the m steering wheels and requires the m steering wheel compatible paddles "m steptronic paddles"
whereas the sport package is the normal sport steering wheel and steptronic paddles

Just the Paddles is what I'm referring to. Looking at the 328i with M-Sport package. I noticed there are two different Steptronic Paddles.

I guess the M-Steptronic Paddle is a must if you want the M-Sports package with the M Wheel eh?

But are there any difference in function (pros / cons)?

This thread is confusing

But its making me curious, do you get DIFFERENT paddle shifters in the M-Sport Package(for 3-series not M3's)?

I don't think the OP is asking about ///M's or M3's in particular, just 3 series.

I got the feeling I am confusing some of you...

But your curiosity was actually what I discovered from the bmw.ca site. see original post on top, I've added the screenshot.

man, bmw is confusing me, and I'm confusing the others here.. duh.

Don't see this on the BMW USA site. Pretty sure there is no difference.

im 90% sure its just cosmetic, if you read the list of options slowly it clearly says "M steptronic . padels", it has nothing to do with the trany, its just a difference in interior padels. bmw is just know for giving you many options. some people may want the agressive look and other might want the soft look.

i might be wrong since your in canada and the opions might be different there but thoes interior pictures, i dont think they are acurate

Never heard of M steptronic paddles.

But the car in the left pics in post#3 has the 7speed DCT transmission.

How about //Marketing //Money //Muchos gracias .. sucker .. lol !!!

Kidding aside .. this is just plain ridiculous. AFAIK ... I just saw an M-sport 3-series. It's all the same .. the auto-transmission lever and the paddles.

It's probably that little logo on the bottom spoke of the steering wheel which makes it cost more.
