will it mess up the car? maybe. that's the traditional way of doing a burnout. stand on the brakes, rev the engine up to the powerband until the tires begin to slip, and then slowly release the brakes to move down the track.
however, on an AWD vehicle that lacks in torque compared to cars that can do this effectively, all you're doing is putting heat on the torque converter in the transmission (automatic) or unnecessary wear on the clutch (manual). you won't mess up the engine, or probably other parts of the driveline, but these cars aren't muscle cars. they aren't built for that abuse. if you want to get into the powerband faster, move the trans into first gear (automatic), or drop the clutch at a higher RPM (manual) in order to move the pig off the line faster. what you're doing is just wasting parts and putting unnecessary strain on your driveline.
