Question What makes our E9X's safe?

Its a question I have always put alot of thought into. Everytime i go in my car, i feel invincible as if i were in a tank. I have absolute confidence in my vehicle that incase an accident were to occur, i would indefinitely walk out unharmed.

Yes, having confidence in a car is a good thing, but too much of it? especially if theres nothing really there? fuck.

So, I ask all of you, is our car safer than usual? or is it almost identical/comparable to the competitors such as Audi and MB. What innovative technology does BMW employ to have a lead in safety?

look up "passive" and "active" safety related to BMW cars. should be a bunch of stuff on the web about it

Hi,

Crash performance is relative. While I agree that the E9x is a solid car with advanced passive and active safety features, it isn't invincible and you won't always walk away unharmed. It depends on what you hit, or what hits you, and how.

I'm always cautious when driving in that I assume that I can be hurt if I get hit. That shapes my driving style to be more defensive, while still driving spiritedly and enjoying my car's performance. I think a lot of these changes kicked in when I had children and nothing's more important to me in this world.

To your point, too much confidence can lead to overconfidence and overconfidence can lead to mental errors. It's just statistics; as the miles pile on, the odds are against you.

Be safe!

Regards,
Adnan

Its the same thing that makes them unsafe, its the person behind the wheel. The same thing that can save your life in the right hands can be wrapped around a tree in the wrong hands.

set up a google news alert for stories containing 335i or 328i and every so often you'll get a couple of stories about someone that got mangled in an accident and that should sober you right up.

BMW's are very safe, and I might get flamed for saying this, but I would rather be in a Mercedes-Benz in a serious wreck than a BMW if i had the choice.

I had the same feeling in my Audi S4. I believe it comes from a driving experience whereby, due to the AWD which is alway operating and working without driver input, you find that slippery road conditions are handled with little or no dramatics. Having been involved in a front end collision with my Audi, my car came out of the collision with less than $2000 damage and the other car was totalled. The built in safety features also add to the sense of security. IMHO, the cars are safer to drive than many other , but no vehicle is invulnerable

well, unlike you guys in america, 90% of the cars on the road here are made before 1999.... THe majority of them were made over fifteen years ago.... we have a shitload of old ass cars. so, the fact that most of the vehicles around me are old and falling apart, their structural integrity is compromised.

That, added to the fact that the speed limit here is never above 80kph, and most cars cant make it over 120kph here. SO, the limitations are much much greater versus america where the avg speed is 60mph, and the cars are much newer in terms of build.

In other words, getting into an accident where i live, the odds are is that its going to be at a low speed, and the vehicle opposing me will be of old and delapidated standards, hence increasing my risk of survival. in the us, the odds are not in my favor....

i hope you get the idea that im trying to convey, i just feel like im slipping into a tank every time i open my doors.

Isn't it funny the thoughts that come into ones mind when one takes a nice juicy puff.
