Replacing the front bumper will be pretty expensive!

Folks:

Take a look at this picture, if you have to change the bumper on your e90, it is going to be expensive. Not only will you need a new bumper, but you will also need to get a new kidney grill and possibly the skirt chrome grills. Oh yeah, you will need new PDC sensors as well, but you may be able to save the fog lights.

I've had to change my bumpers on my e46 and my x5 several times because i live in the city of Chicago, and street parking can be brutal on the bumpers. I've also had a few people rear end me and have had the bumpers replaced. Last time a Dodge Dakota rear ended my e46, and although it cost 4K to get a new bumper, new headlights and a new trunk lid, when it hit me, i didn't feel a thing on my e46. BMW really knows how to make cars!

I never even thought about that until now, how the bumper goes all the way up to the top of the grills. Full aftermarket bumpers (i'd probably add one eventually) and even just OE bumper replacement is $$$. Looks like spoiler lip add-on may be the way to go in terms of styling kits.

theres no reason for it to be more expensive, the bumper just goes up higher by a little bit, thats a bit more plastic, thats all. You wont have to replace the kidney grills since you could reuse your kidney grills with whatever new bumper you buy. ANd if you think about it, this new design will actually save you money because if you hit something that goes high enough to hit the kidney grills all you have to do is buy a new bumper, instead of a new bumper and a new hood.

That's actually a great point about the hood replacement! Well hopefully we don't hit anything!

The E90 330i front bumper is listed at 230 Euro
The 2004 E46 330i front bumper is listed at 269 Euro

So its cheaper, but you have to add the grills if you cant take them out the old one, but they are pretty cheap

Why anyone who lives in the city (any big city) would own a decent car is a mystery to me. Between damage, parking costs, insurance rates... just not worth it.

...and all of those faults are blanketed when we get behind the wheel. You remember why you bought your e90 when you take that onramp at 70 mph and feel glued to the ground, or you want to pass someone on the highway and downshift to third until you redline to 4th, or when you are getting out of your car, and start walking away and have to look back not just twice, but four or five times! That feeling is total euphoria, and i don't even have to explain myslef to at least 85% of the members of this forum. They know what I feel. Actually, I'll use this to start a new thred...how the e90 makes you feel.

Point taken - and not trying to argue, but it would personally drive me insane to have all the parallel parking scars and dings all over my car. Spending 2 hours a day trying to park... etc. God bless you man!

PDC is only on the rear bumper of US spec e90s. For the Euro e90s I would guess the good PDC sensors could be removed from the damaged bumper to be placed into the new bumper shell

true....actually, sorry. I think that I took it too far out of context, but feel free to add your comments to the new thread then.

I agree ledzep. When I lived in NYC I had a nice car but it was garaged & only used to get out of the city for weekends. If I had to park on the streets or use the car to get around daily I would have driven a beater.
