My OEM Ipod Install Nightmare
Hi,
After months of anxious waiting for the new interface I was suprised when my dealer told me they had it in stock this monday. I made an appt for yesterday and dropped it off yesterday. They didn't have a loaner, but they were able to drive me home(live 1 mile away). So last night I get a call telling me it is a major install and it wont be ready till today. I'll tell them I need to work today(ED Doc) and cant be late or miss work. This mornig they say the program crashed and they have to reprogram the whole car(mine had all the latest updates, didn't need the emsission recall update). So it is gonna take all day. They tell me they found me a loaner, but I had no way to get there, car was supposed to be ready yesterday. They can drive the loaner over either. Meanwhile its 10:45 and I have to be at the hospital at 11:30. So I get a cab and get there in time. The loaner was a nice 330I , so it is coll to compare it to the Xi, not much difference except you can really let the tail swing out, which is sweet. Just got a call from them now saying that they need to replace my radio, as it wont work with the new programming. They say they will get one in tommorow. What a nightmare. 3 days for a n Ipod. Guess I should have waited for them to get more experience. hind site is 20/20. |

Bummer. Okay, I'm going to put on my surprised face...
Was that convincing? Took them 3 days to install my Sirius for me. I had a 750Li loaner the whole time though, so I didn't care. And yet I'm a cynic... hmmm. People forget that BMW service is only as good as the local gene pool they have to hire from.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Look on the bright side though, the full iPod integration will be well worth it.
After reading posts like this I am more convinced than ever that my original intention of waiting for dealer to get more experience is the correct decision. -hkj |

That sucks!
The pic of JSpira's interface install made me reconsider. I did speak to one of the BMW Master Techs at my center yesterday. He is the only tech that I would trust to do this install. He did mention that it might take longer than expected, possibly all day and that I would be the guinea pig. Last edited by SCA; 08-31-2006 at 03:26 PM.. |
